a possible plothole?

Hi. Allright so there is one thing that has been *beep* with me quite a lot since i finished this game that someone may have an explenation to.

Anyway, the cook is selling Diazes drugs, and after you kill him you start to work for Umberto Robina. How did Diaz *beep* up the deal when it is obvious that Umberto Robina has the drugs (and probably the stolen cash too)?

It just never got explained. At no point are we led to believe that Robina is working for Diaz either, so it all really makes no sense. Tommy Should've killed of Robina right away.

There was never any indication of this? Surely you're not getting your characters mixed up...

I'm not getting anything mixed up. Watch this;

post mission-call

Caller: Hey Leo, I think we got a buyer for Diaz's merchandise. You gotta give him a ring, man, set up the deal, you know?

Tommy Vercetti: Where are you now?

Caller: You OK Leo? You sound kinda different.

Tommy Vercetti: Just tell me where you are.

Caller: Who the hell is this? Put Leo on, man!

Tommy Vercetti: Leo's gone away for a while, he left me in charge.

Caller: Screw you, man!

The "Caller" is Umberto Robina, wich means that he *beep* up the deal and took the drugs and probably the money too. Altough Tommy never confronted him about this, wich is really strange considering the fact that the whole plot basically revolved around that drugdeal.

It could be so that U.R was in fact working for Diaz and helping him sell the *beep* but nowhere are we led to believe this in the game.

That isn't Robina's voice. VERY similar, but not the same.

Believe.

of course it is Robinas voice, you meet the guy after that phonecall!

reply

There are two calls from an unknown caller.

Believe.

it doesn't matter, it is him.

You don't meet Umberto after this phone call, another island is yet locked at that point, you meet Umberto after completing "The Two Bit HIt".Umberto then calls and Tommy says that he killed Leo and took his phone and Umberto thinks that Tommy must have big cojones and asks him to come work for him.
Maybe Dan Houser wanted it this way,Tommy believes that Diaz *beep* up the deal while Diaz might not have anything to do with it. Umberto never did business with Diaz, not in VCS and not in VC either.Maybe Leo worked for Umberto to make some money on the side and Diaz didn't know about it.

but the money and drugs were never retrieved in the end. This was the center of the plot after all...

You're confusing a side-plot with the main plot.

The above posters are correct; the guy who called noting that Leo sounded different (being that Tommy answered Leo's phone) was not Umberto (in my opinion, that guy sounded NOTHING like Umberto). Umberto isn't involved in the main plot; he's simply trying to take over the Haitians' turf.

Now, there is something of a crossover in the story because Leo worked for Diaz AND worked for Umberto, but separately and for DIFFERENT GOALS, respective to each crime lord.

The cook (Leo Teal) is a private hitman who sells his services to various buyers, not just one crime lord. So he works for Diaz AND Umberto. Separately.

It is revealed that Teal WAS involved with the initial ambush, through Mr. Black (the guy with the funny voice who's always calling payphones for the hit missions) and directed by Diaz. Teal was also involved in trying to find a buyer for the cocaine that Diaz got from the ambush.

NONE of this had anything to do with Umberto, who hired Teal separately.
