Brownies Called Muffins?

The bailiff holds up a plate of brownies and says "I made these muffins myself. Special treat for the first day." It's listed in the "Goofs" as an error, but I'm wondering if it's a regional thing. Has anyone ever heard of brownies being called muffins in Louisiana or elsewhere?

those brownies looked bad. best guess would be they were given the name 'muffins' as some sort of witness protection to protect from being ashamed of tasting so nasty.
