I've looked around the board to see if anyone has answered this - sorry if I've missed it. What was the point of the call to the police and raid on the costume shop? We can never tell if any valuable evidence was seized, right? Was this part different in the book?

The trial was over. They were shutting down anyway. The purpose of the call was to bring in the police immediately after the verdict to seize proof of Fitch's activities. But there doesn't seem to be any result in the movie - did they get evidence or not? That's why I asked if it was expanded in the book.
shareThis event does not occur at all in the book. In fact, much of the movie and especially the entire ending of the film is different in the book. The book makes much more sense and is plotted better with fewer loose ends. The characters of Nick and Marlee have a better character history and what they ultimately do to Fitch and how they get away with things is much more practical and believable. Not to mention it is much "cooler".

I was more bothered by the size of the police response to a "robbery in progress" at an old, seemingly abandoned industrial area. One cop with a flashlight is what you'd expect to show up, not an entire squad with sirens blazing.
