In the beginning of the movie when Dustin Hoffman is talking with Jeremy Piven about what tie to wear, there's a brief moment when he talks in his southern accent and then gives a quick smile - just like he did in Tootsie. I was not thinking about him being in Tootsie when I was watching the movie, but I caught that because it made me think of him in Tootsie.
I watched the scene with him and Gene Hackman several times, and he is speaking in the southern accent and standing up to him very strongly, like in Tootsie, especially when he's really upset with him. But I never thought of him as being like Tootsie when I've seen this movie like 50-100 times now over the years in that scene, only in the tie scene with the accent and then the quick smile afterwards like Tootsie.
In another thread in here, people have said it's just Dustin Hoffman talking in a southern accent, and not him acting like Tootsie. I have him in other movies I've seen over and over, like Outbreak, but I've never thought of Tootsie in them. I think it's just Dustin Hoffman's style of acting and talking in the southern accent, and the quick smile, that he also used in Tootsie. I do enjoy seeing that quick tie scene because I love seeing him acting like he did in Tootsie with that accent and quick smile! I loved Tootsie, and I think he did a great job in that movie. It's my all-time favorite comedy movie because it makes me laugh so much with everyone being so funny in it!
I'm glad they added that bathroom scene when they found out that Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman had lived together when they started out, but they had never acted together. BTW I did think of Gene Hackman as being Lex Luthor in the Superman movies in that scene when he said, "...truth, justice, or your American way." I always say, "That's what Superman stood for - Truth, justice, and the American way, Lex Luthor!" LOL! I first noticed Gene Hackman in the Superman movies, and he's playing a bad character again in this movie. He's very good at it!
