Maybe gun ownership should not only be legal but mandatory

Then there will be no more crying about poor unarmed people being killed.

The odds will be evened up.

Odds will be even, unless someone has a bigger gun :-P

This is the thing; I agree with the OP...states like Montana and Wyoming have very very polite people in them.

But this is where I draw the line..

What is needed for self-defense?

Years ago when I was a young woman living on my own, there had been a spree of burglaries and rapes around my area. I was scared and went to a gun shop.

The owner said what I really needed was a "Hell's Kitchen Burglar Alarm" and then he showed me a double barrel shotgun and the sound of it being racked into place.

That would do it for me as an intruder.

Why do we need the really fancy, get off infinite shots in a minute auto numbers?

This is not a banana republic. Well not out front. Not yet. Even then, the army will always win the coup d'etat. So...why do we need all these incredible weapons with so much firing power?

reply

I want incredible weapons with so much firing power, not for the burglar entering my home, but for the enemies of the People entering my country. If I can't stand next to my nation's army to defend my home...

If your nation ever needs you to protect against invading hordes, they'll simply conscript you and give you everything you need.

Gun ownership is mandatory in Switzerland. Yep, it's true.

There are some burglaries and home invasions in my neighborhood. I bought a very good alarm system, not a gun.

To each their own...opinion

reply

I prefer to have both. The alarm for when I'm not home, the shotgun for when I AM home.

Sometimes alarm systems don't scare perps away.

My neighbors' home got broke into in the middle of the day, the alarm went off. Thieves made it out with all their valuables. Luckily, nobody was hurt or killed.

For men only as part of their militia. The types they can own are limited though.

But what if some people don't want to own a gun, or would never use a gun? Is it then their fault if they get murdered by an intruder, or is still the intruder's fault for committing a crime in the first place?
