I thought it was pretty obvious that he was being ironic when he said it. Each 'where are they now' segment started with the same bit to introduce themselves by name and season, so that was a cue from the interviewing producer. Ben took the cue and turned it into a joke. Made me laugh, but I like dry humor.

When a joke is funny yeah. Maybe it was the way he delivered it (he stumbled a bit) but I didn't think it was funny.
