Does Anyone Else Wonder Why Nick...

felt as though he 'owed' the women an explanation (or even an apology), re his fling with Liz that occurred about 6 months before they started filming?!? Seriously, unless the show is not letting us in on some relevant detail(s) (eg, like if Nick WANTED and KNEW that Liz was going to be cast as a bachelorette from the get-go), I honestly don't get why so many of the women felt let-down or even "hurt" by him having a one-night stand, months before any of them even met him! Hell, he's a single guy, and last time I checked, the etiquette for a first/second date (regardless of the lunacy of 30 people dating the same person), is that it's no one's business whom he (or she) slept with in the past, prior to the show's filming (or IRL, prior to a first date) - I mean, seriously!!

And yes, I understand that his is a rather unique situation being the "Bachelor" in that during the first 2-3 weeks, Liz and he shared this "secret," but I honestly put myself in the position of the other women and quite frankly, I would be more intimidated by the current connections he's making (emotional and some physical - hardly full-on intercourse though), than the fact that he and Liz hadn't talked for so long, and the only reason they even had sex (prob 90%) was that they were both bombed and lonely and at a wedding for Christ's sake! (as I'm sure others here can relate, in my 46 years, I've been to my fair share of weddings, and it would be weirder if none of the singles, esp those in the wedding party, didn't 'hook-up' afterwards).

***And even if Nick DID know that she was going to be cast, ironically, if I were one of the other women, I'd prob worry about his and Liz's connection the least, because obviously, from either or both sides (I guess in this case, more on Liz's), a one-night stand that didn't turn into anything was just that - a one-night stand!

I think he just wanted to clear the air and tell the truth before rumors started popping up making him seem dishonest. He needed to let them know that while he had a fling with her that he in no way conspired to get her on the show or even knew about it. All the crying as stuff after she got kicked off was just dumb but I take it as jealousy that one of them had already gotten to sleep with him.

I think some were concerned that he and Liz had been in more contact than they actually had. Plus with Liz spilling the beans he needed to clear the story before incorrect info got out there. I don't think the ladies were that mad about it but questioning the situation. I think the girls are madder about him and Corinne.

reply

I agree that they're not particularly mad about it, but that's kind of my point. I don't know what the big deal was in the first place - eg, why was he so hesitant to bring it up in the first place - there was nothing 'scandalous' about it, you know?

reply

Like Navaeh said above, I think it was more about killing the rumor mill before the girls could speculate that there was more to the story. And it's the perceived "betrayal" of thinking that all the contestants were on an even playing field from night 1, just to find out that Nick and Liz sort of deceived them by hiding the fact that they already knew each other. Now I think that's bogus since the women had only been in the mansion for a few days before the news broke, but still...they probably felt like that it should have been stated up front instead of being all hush hush.

But yeah, really not scandalous at all. I was glad that it seemed to pass quickly. I was also glad that the woman (Lacey?) who chose to tell Nick that the Liz situation was 'eerily similar to Andi and Kaitlyn' got axed the same night that she made such a dumb comment. Way to win a guy over, honey.

reply

I kept thinking Lacey was named Lesley because she looks exactly like a Lesley who was on the show a few years ago I think. But yeah pretty silly comment, I wonder if that's part of the reason she got cut.

reply

I would love to know that as well. It certainly got my attention when she said it, and not in a good way, so I would not be surprised if he felt too awkward with her and that was her downfall.

reply

Not sure why he didn't just say she was an ex who showed up to see if there was anything still there and there wasn't. Simple explanation, less drama.

reply

True, but I think calling her an ex is misleading since there was no real relationship. And he was too late once she spilled the beans to Kristen and then pulled that stupid stunt on the group date...details were out, so they would have picked at his explanation until he had to say more anyway. Liz could not keep it in for even a few days, so she really didn't give Nick much time to deal with it on his own.

reply

when did she make that comment? I don't remember it but it sounds so dumb I'd like to witness it firsthand.

reply

It was at the cocktail party/rose ceremony near the beginning of the episode. Nick explained about Liz in front of the whole group, then they showed a montage of different girls talking to him about Liz throughout the cocktail party, and somewhere in the middle of that, Lacey was shown saying it. It would be easy to miss since they were cutting quickly between several different conversations.

reply

ahh, I see thanks! I actually remember not paying enough attention during that part.

reply

He didn't owe them a damn thing and none of the women were even THAT upset and I have a feeling that the small amount of "concern" from the few women who expressed it was manufactured by the producers. The whole thing with Liz was clearly a producer setup from the start to create drama and issues, just like the Corrine stuff is all but complete b.s. The show isn't even subtle about their planted drama anymore. 
