Re-review

I commented here quite a while back to comments made about this movie not being kid-friendly . . . i defended it - saying it was just as good as Carey's 'Grinch' . . . but I was wrong.

I just very recently watched this DVD again in the company of children . . . ages 6 & 11 ... and I realized the specific offensive scenes that could'a easily, and should'a been altered or obliterated . . .

?The scene where Cat chops his tail: instead of yelling/cutting 'Son-of-a-Bi ....!

They could'a simply had him yell and cut to the 'hang in there baby' pause. Would've been just as cute and perfectly fine.

?The comment about the *beep* car could've been J.U.N.K. or something else clean ... it was unecessary to use the S word in a Seuss movie.

?The 'dirty ho' scene should've been cut out.

?The partially cut comment about the flaming toilet:
Instead of 'something like that really burns my A--!' could've just as easily said 'burns my taaaaiiillll!!!' ...

There were a few more uneeded inuendos ... all of these things I sort of accepted in the same spirit of innuendos made in Bugs Bunny cartoons - but if you happen to care about content for your young children - then these blatant comments or even partially masked profanities are going to offend you.

And other than these things, the movie was pure gold - a blast of colourful fun, and very, very Seussy!

What a shame these few scenes were not left on the cutting room floor, or rewritten to honour our beloved dr.
