was it really that bad?

I haven't seen this and I'm not going to but I'm just wondering if this movie was really as bad as the rating here on IMDB. I've heard horrible things about this movie but I didn't think that it would be this bad.

Come on guys.....let's get real here, this is no citizen cain. It's a great movie to watch with your kids and put your brain into neutral. Just relax and enjoy. Great one liners!

I would rather show my kids a horror movie than this if I had any.

It's honestly my least favorite movie of all time. And I saw it when I was fairly young, didn't like it then either.

No, it wasn't that bad. People just can't accept an adaptation of a book that adds in subplots, rather than just having what was in the original book. Apart from Mike Myers, the acting in this film is good although Mike Myers wasn't even the first choice, Tim Allen was. I am a fan of Mike Myers in general though so I can usually see one of his films. This film does not feel very much like the book but I like though how the Cat taught Sally and Conrad good behaviour and that the villain got his comeuppance. The set design in this film is good and some of it's jokes are funny, like when the fish says Oh my Cod and when the Cat says he doesn't use the D word. I don't like the part where the Cat's bum is visible and where Paris Hilton appears though. Some of the jokes are inappropriate for children [30 years ago people would have cared about that less], and though they probably wouldn't pick up on all of them, I can understand why Doctor Seuss's wife didn't like it. But that does not necessarily make it a bad film, because most authors don't like the adaptations of their books, and this wasn't even Doctor Seuss himself who didn't like it. Also, I think The Cat In The Hat was her final straw for non-animated Doctor Seuss film adaptations. Considering that this film is not animated, they did their best, and though it is quite boring and not worth watching loads, there are much worse movies. I think people just don't see the good in this one, it has become popular to hate. I like how the Cat says he's not good at rhyming, it shows that he is not perfect, and the ending where Sally and Conrad have learnt is moving. The conflict in this film is well done, with different parts to it. I would give it 5/10, I would give the same to the cartoon version, which is good but a bit too child-friendly, not for adults enough, and encourages bullying of a fish. I would give the same to the Grinch which I feel neutral about, I haven't read the book and like Jim Carrey but not in non comedies except for the Truman Show. Therefore, I think this film fits in around what I know of Doctor Seuss films, my expectations for The Cat In The Hat were not that high. It is nowhere near a classic, but is still the most underrated film I've seen because people make it out to be the worst film ever, but it isn't. If it is the worst film you've seen, you probably haven't seen many films. Part of this film is stupid and Thing 1 and Thing 2 are very creepy. The script is not very good and it was made for the wrong people, it was made for teenagers when it should have been made for children. Parents would probably feel uncomfortable when watching it with their children. It should not reference what it means as a film, for example that Universal Studios reference was bad. It should have rhymed most of the way through, not occasionally. But at least it has a good side to it, I think people just can't see the good in this film. It is at least so bad that it is good, and a good guilty pleasure to have. If you take away that it is not what you would expect for a Doctor Seuss adaptation, it is not nearly as bad.

No because if you don't like this movie you are NOT a Dr. Seuss fan.

I really don't get all the hate towards this movie!

I liked it. It was funny. It was entertaining. It was GOOD.

And the same goes to the Grinch movie.
