anyone notice?

did anyone else notice that Weisz's accent slipped a few times?

reply

To be honest, I though her accent was fine. It’s rare that a British actor is able to pull off an American accent, but Rachel did quite fine. Plus the fact that she was one of the few actors in the film that could act was a major plus.

reply

There was nothing wrong with her accent I think she sounded a lot better than a lot of the actors who were in the film.

reply

yes, but it slipped a few times.

yeah ed burns' voice kind of bugs me. it's too scratchy.

reply

Yeah, there is someting annoying about burns' voice. It bugs me to.

one of the few actors that could act?! did you even watch this movie? paul giamatti is one of the most underrated actors of today and i would like someone to point out for me a movie in which he dissapoints. dustin hoffman? c'mon now. he pulled off the part of "the king" with precision and then some. dustin hoffman is one of the greatest actors ever. and then we have andy garcia who shines in almost every single role he has ever played. the two cops? luis guzman has mastered the secondary role that he plays in almost every film and nails his character every time. people may not like ed burns all that much and i must say that at first glance early in his carrer i was not that big of a fan. but to deny him credibility as one of todays more reliable actors when it comes to consistancy and acurate portrayal of whatever character he plays is just silly. he definately grows on you in time if you give him a chance. but nonetheless a great performance in this film. i thought the acting was great...its what made this film considering the plot line is just bits and pieces of other hijinx movies compiled into a slightly different atmosphere with a differet cast. the acting is what kept me watching until the end.

good comment Captain_Insaneo1. Paul Giamatti is a talent and far underrated. i just watched Confidence twice in a row on the airplane, and admiring Giamatti's masterful character playing was what kept me tuned into this mediocre film a second time. i also remember Giamatti's work in Duets as impressively convincing.

any suggestions on other great roles of this guy is appreciated...

Yeah, I watched the movie with my brother and we both caught it a few times. If you wanna see a perfect Amercian accent check out Damian Lewis in Band of Brothers. He never slips once, in fact i thought his brit accent was fake in the interview at first

reply

I thought I noticed it a few times, but I'm not positive. As for Damian Lewis, I completely agree, I had NO idea he was British until I saw an interview with him.

Some of you guys can’t tell the difference between an American voice and a British one. There was nothing wrong with her accent in the movie. She did a great American voice in the movie, so well in fact that you can’t tell if she is British or not. Plus considering the fact that the movie had both Ed Burns and Andy Garcia butchering the English languish only shows how better her accent was compared to some of the actors on the film.

As for Damian Lewis, if you though that he did a great accent in Band Of Brothers, then you must get your ears checked, because his British accent was free and clear on that show.

Please, some of you need to get your ears check really bad if you can’t tell the difference between American and British accents.

Who cares? Everybody hears things different, just like no two people see the color of an object the same. It's all a matter of opinion, no need to get so fired up over it. What's the big deal? Some people thought they heard a slight slip up, others didn't. Same with Damian Lewis.

reply

I dont know how you can say that Damian lewis's American accent in Band of Brothers was bad. If so you are the only person i have talked to who thinks so, most people think it was great. Doc roe and Liebgott also did good american accents in band of brothers. I guess this really has nothing to do with the movie Confidence. I think that Ed burns plays the perfect tough guy, really liked him in 15 minutes. Is it me or does She's the one seem like The brothers mcmullen with different actors and a few small changes?

But I have promises to keep.

it's language. not languish.......

reply

there was nothing wrong with any of the accents in the movie and if you did find something wrong, you're analyzing somethign that really doesnt matter all that much. I mean, cant you just enjoy the movie?

Who cares, she's hot

reply

Wait wait wait! Hold up! Damian Lewis is British! What the hell! Well, that guys moves onto my list of fav and best actors!! Band Of Brothers was great, and even though Dreamcatcher was pure CRAP(books good tho) he played Jonesy well!

reply

I definately noticed her accent slip and i'ts not that it's a big f*cking deal...it's just cool when you can hear stuff like that...it means that we're better at hearing all the little things (we're good at eavesdropping too) I'm a linguistics major which is why I could hear it in a New York second...I knew she was British before hand but she slipped more than once. I still loved the movie I just love that I could point out every single lilt that showed her as a Brit

reply

Hey, I noticed it too. I notice most of the bad accents in movies. One of the worst (brit -> american) accents, I'd have to say, would have to be Pierce Brosnan.

I agree with Gwyneth Paltrow not being that great, you can one hundred and a zillion percent here all the american inflections in her voice but I have to disagree with Renee Zellweger because she lived in London working at a publishing firm for six months before shooting and I never heard a slip, the only thing I might have heard is a strain, like she had to think about what she was saying but even Colin Firth and Hugh Grant said they were shocked when she came to the wrap party with her Texan accent. And I don't think Johnny Dep was necessarily supposed to have a strictly British accent, he was supposed to just have an accent, he didn't really sound like he was from anywhere specific, but more like he was a drunk slurring a bunch of accents together.

Depp's accent in Pirates had more of an Irish brogue to it than Brit -- but I don't know any pirates, so maybe British pirates do sound like that. Whatever, he played it brilliantly.

Weisz' accent did slip once or twice (I think where she says "why thank you") but it was pretty good. At least she gave it a decent go. Can anyone tell me why all Disney's lead characters maintain an American accent no matter where they are? Mowgli! Alladin! It bothers me.

reply

I know. And in her confrontation at the club with Burns' character a bit of a Jersey Brooklyn accent slipped out too. She never really seemed to know what type of accent to have.
