Is this movie like The Sting

I haven't seen the film yet but it sounds an awful like Redford and Neuman's "The Sting."

This movie is very much like the Sting, but also has the same multi-level "con quality" as movies like Heist and House of Games. I thought it was well done, well paced and quite enjoyable.

Yes very much so! and like Oceans Eleven both good movies.

to say that confidence is a remake of the sting is an insult. the sting was much better, and MUCH different. i guess the endings are similar (like bandits, too), but other than that and the con aspect, nothings alike.

Take a look at the tag line from "The Sting". They couldn't even think of an origional title.

Coz lifes too short to listen to Madlib

I agree that Spanish Prisoner is better. Also The Sting is better than this movie, but it would be correct to say that it is 'like' The Sting. If you like this you might also like Matchstick Men (to a degree).

WAY too much like The Sting. Sure, the con is different but if you saw The Sting you will immediately know who the players are as they appear and the end will be no surprise at all. I liked The Sting better.

I started off writing that "Confidence" wasn't anything like "The Sting", but as I continued to write I realized that "Confidence" had "borrowed" ALOT of plot elements from "The Sting".
They are both about the "con" and so the usual elements (greed. Being blinded by money, sex and power. etc., etc.) that it takes to pull off a con are all there and HAVE to be in order to tell a con story in the first place.
Both movies begin with a con that has us uncertain as to who is who and what is what. They both have inadvertantly conned money from someone with lots of power and we see that power wielded early on with the killing of one of the con artists. from that point on both movies are motivated by revenge as well as the con. Even the final scenes of both movies are very much alike with one member of the con artists "killing" another member.

The differences are more about execution than the actual content. To begin with "The Sting" was a much more light-hearted movie. Even the killings and ass-whippings in "The Sting" were much more sterile than those in "Confidence". (Although Luther's murder and the beating that Redfords character takes, even though we don't really even see it, had MUCH more impact than anything in "Confidence"
Pretty much every single element of "The Sting" was top of the line, grade A stuff. Newman and Redford were not only at the peak of their careers, but also put in a couple of their best performances.
Same thing can be said about the supporting cast as well. Robert Shaw, Ray Walston, Charles Durning, Eileen Brennan etc. all put in memorable performances.
The soundtrack became the music phenom of the year with the rediscovery of Scott Joplin and amazing success of the "Red Album".
"The Sting" was a much better movie. The acting was amazing, the writing was tight, the soundtrack was not only great, but was an integral part of the movie helping to move the story along. It was a hellofa lot of fun.
"Confidence " was pretty good, but it is not in the same ball park with "The Sting". With "The Sting" we see the major league during the world series in the N.Y. Yankees/Brooklyn Dodgers era. "Confidence" is AAA minor league at best.

BTW. Redford's partner "Luther" in "The Sting" is James Earl Jones father (Robert Earl Jones). (James, I am your father.)(Sorry, I couldn't resist 8-) Check out his bio. What an amazing life he had. http://imdb.com/name/nm0429149/bio
