The twist (spoiler)
The first twist (it was all in his mind) was revealed too soon. They could have kept the motel stuff going a little longer, and it would have been a lot better.

shareI found it effective, but that would have been better.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
yes, I agree.
you could see 'problems' with each of the characters, but nothing made sense..
it seemed a little like Ten Little Indians.
But then it was clear that he was some of the characters... and finally revealed that he was all of the characters.
not really a satisfying ending for me.
I give it a 5.
Regardless of when the twist should've been revealed, it still would've ruined the movie for me. I was really into the movie, but then you see that it's all in his head and the it was disappointing because I was on the edge of my seat, thinking it was really good. Then that last twist... Where the kid was the killer personality... I felt like they just threw that in for the sake of it being an unexpected ending
shareThe film had two twists ("all in the head" and "Timmy"). I guess the filmmakers found it more suspenseful to separate these two twists by a few minutes rather than revealing them simultaneously.
shareBut when they revealed all the characters just existed in his head, you sort of stopped caring what happened to them or who was the killer
shareWe actually should care about who would "survive" and who won't after the twist. These "people" were vital to Malcolm. We cared about wanting the good personality to survive -- And that was the objective in the film, kill off the bad personalities and leave the good one "alive", for Malcolm's well being.
Yes, of course, but I felt the storylines within his mind became irrelevant and less important to my enjoyment of the film.
shareYes,I agree. Since it was followed by the ludicrous Rhodes(Liotta)-twist...he is the killer without motive or reasonable suspicion(Concidering they were in a serialkiller with an identity disorders mind)...but because he is portrayed by RAY LIOTTA. That was just embarrassing. He was the most paranoid and determined to find the culprit,he was a killer, sure; Not THE KILLER.We got like six good indications of that prior.
shareI think the early twist was done well. That way you could see everything in the hotel part differently. The whole feel of the movie changes because you're now seeing everyone as personalities in his mind instead of the real world. Which explains what is going on in the first place. It now becomes a fight for control of the inmates mind. Its like a snap to reality, you think you're watching one kind of movie and then all of sudden its something else.
shareBut the"Early" twist is NOT EARLY at all, man. So the feel of the movie changing and now seeing EVERYONE as personalities in his mind...well,outta the eleen the filmstartsout withonly four is left when the truth is revealed...and one is shot after about 14 seconds. There could never really be as you say,a fight for control of the inmates mind, since little Timmy was waiting in the wing all the while, ready to snuff out the last whore standing...
...But even if there was,I think the sudden telepathy between Ed and Paris that only goes one way(Paris is hysterical after seeeing Rhodes´ file, knowing he´s a murderer,Ed now also knows and is gonna kill him,Paris has no clue)and an anticlimactic shoot-out between Ed and a killer without motive or speech,in fact none of ém says a word...that part was handled poorly. I love everything up until Ed goes back inside Malcolms head....
I agree. The reveal is perfectly timed. We don't really know much as a result of it but are blown away by it. It makes the rest of the movie much more interesting.
