Why So Good?

I am an A Level media studies student and needs to find out why japanese horrors are soo apealing to other cultures other than the japanese. Can you please reply with your own personal opinions on why you enjoyed this film and what specific aspects were the most appealing? Thanks, vey much appreciated Ben.

I think personally its a number of factors that contribute to most Asian films regardless of genre or country. For one the culture is so vastly removed from western life that the immersion into the film is more complete. Its a fantasy world almost even though we know its an accurate representation of a small corner of life on earth. Another factor is the subtlety (Excuse any spelling mistakes) of the films. In this case the acting, story and visual props were toned down as are many of the great Japanese horrors. of course there are exceptions for example the extreme aspect of asian media like Itchi, Tetsuo and dumplings but they are also well loved as they give the audience something they don't get else where usually. An un-watered down look at the harshest fantasies. There comes a point when you get tired of what American and European films have to offer. This is only my opinion of why I personally like these films. I don't claim to be an expert so if you think I'm wrong that's fine.
