Okay, so the mother saved her daugther by getting killed by that creepy girl right? Why didnt she just kick her away or something? It is a 6-year old girl for crying out loud..

She's also a ghost! what can you possibly do to her to hurt her?

Even worse, mom could never be sure if it's her own daughter or "realy" a ghost.

Not to mention the dents that "little girl" made in the water tower.

She sacrificed herself to make the ghost find peace. She closed it in her arms, knowing it might or might not kill her, but she could show it the love it had been hungering for. By doing so it could come to rest. At least, that's how I see it.

The "little girl" was a ghost so kicking her away isn;t going to do anything. She she is already dead you can't hurt her.
