'War' could be regarded as a sequel (SPOILERS).

Having recently seen the Jet Li/Jason Statham movie 'War', I realised that it could regarded as being a conceptual sequel to 'Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever'. Here are the spoiler-heavy similiarities between the two films;

In both movies Terry Chen plays a married FBI agent (with a daughter) who is the partner and sidekick of the film's main hero.

In both movies it's revealed that a key character faked his death several years earlier and assumed a new identity in order to achieve his goals.

In both movies a highly regarded assassin turns against a former employer.

In both movies it's revealed that the reason for the assassin's betrayal is so he/she can avenge the deaths of his/her family.

In both movies the assassin takes steps to ensure the safety of another character's wife and child.

In both movies a main character - a FBI agent - learns that he was betrayed several years ago (resulting in his family being taken from him) by a friend and colleague.

The main villain in 'Ballistic' is named Agent Clark (aka Robert Gant). In 'War' there is a minor character (one of Crawford's underlings) called... Agent Clark. This might be a coincidence, or maybe it's an in-joke by the scriptwriter, acknowledging the similiartities with the earlier film.
