The rant in the restroom

Edward Nortons "rant" in the bathroom scene was amazing... Pretty much agreed with just about everything he said! Perfectly acted and excecuted, he's awesome!

Anyone else agree?

I know everyone acclaims that scene but I thought it was just Spike Lee jerking himself off again. It was too much like the racial tirades in Do the Right Thing. Back then those scenes may have been "cutting edge" or whatever, but in this movie it just felt like Spike Lee was ripping himself off, while in his mind I'm sure he was thinking he was doing some "genius" trademark thing that no one else would do.

It was too EXAGGERRATED.

I agree with the last line, "no, #@$% you Montgomery Brogan, you had it all and you threw it all away, you dumb %#@$!" Its just perfectly delivered, and speaks volumes about society as a whole, we try to blame everything and everyone only to realize, we're also part of the everything and everyone.
That part and the ending are fantastic, too bad the first half of the movie is pretty damn stale, otherwise it would be my fav movie of all time.

I didn't agree with everything he said, the only line I 100% agree with was when he said no *beep* you to himself. The point was he was putting all the blame on those people he was ranting about (including his family & friends) when he's a fully grown adult that made those decisions on his own.

reply

It wasnt towards those people but himself. He hates himself and he expresses that to the outside world but he really means just himself.

reply

Pretty much agreed with just about everything he said!
Do the 21st century a favor and leave it.

What

reply

You're not supposed to agree with the things he said. They were untrue and horrible and racist and disgusting.

*beep* the corrupt cops with their anus violating plungers and their 41 shots, standing behind a blue wall of silence. You betray our trust!
*beep* the priests who put their hands down some innocent child's pants. *beep* the church that protects them, delivering us into evil. And while you're at it, *beep* JC! He got off easy! A day on the cross, a weekend in hell, and all the hallelujahs of the legioned angels for eternity! Try seven years in *beep* Otisville, Jay!
*beep* Osama Bin Laden, Alqueda, and backward-ass, cave-dwelling, fundamentalist *beep* everywhere. On the names of innocent thousands murdered, I pray you spend the rest of eternity with your seventy-two whores roasting in a jet-fueled fire in hell. You towel headed camel jockeys can kiss my royal, Irish ass!

These statements are popular enough.
They were not all untrea and *beep*
There are moments where everyone complains about the things he rants about, we don't mean in , but we do in the moment.

That scene is taken verbatim from the book on which the film is based - except that part about Bin Laden and 9/11.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.
