S2: Why did the prosecute Byrd?

Why even go to the hassle of putting Omar on the stand, when Wee-Bey already confessed to killing Gant?

reply

Because they knew Wee Bey was only confessing to killing Gant to try and get Byrd out of jail and back on the street.

reply

Right, but the bosses don't care about who did it, they care about clearing murders. It's a big risk using a violent felon as your only evidence in a trial.

reply

Omar wasn't their only evidence. They also had the old lady who corroborated the details of how the deed was done.

reply

Wee-Bey's description of how he did it didn't match the forensics.

reply

They caught Bird with the murder weapon

reply

i've wondered about this too. All the evidence and testimonies wouldn't matter - Wee Bey's confessed to it and is happy to do the time for it, so the bosses wouldn't care, so it wouldn't even get as far as going to trial.
You saw in Season 4 the flak that Bunk got for "unsolving" the murder in Andre's store. Why would this be any different
