Prop Joe in season 5 says something about "Maybe civilizing this mutha f U KA Marlo",or something to that effect,it was the way he said like Marlo obviously being a complete psychopath and knowing it was useless to even try.

I always saw Marlo as a young 'un, too, but was curious so looked up the actor's DOB. I don't know if his age was mentioned on the show, but I was surprised to learn that Jamie Hector was 33 during S5! Per his ID at the morgue, Omar was 34; I thought he was younger, too - although Michael Kenneth Williams was 42! - but still had a number of years on Marlo.
It isn't that early/mid-30s isn't young, but the "young 'un" label had seemed to be reserved for - actual! - kids.
