Is it fake or not?

This board seems to be full of posts and threads like the title.

It's a reality show. They're ALL fake. Every single one of them. And, I've never understood the criteria for a reality show. Would a game show (wheel of fortune, etc) be considered reality t.v. as well?

The only real "reality tv" shows I've ever seen were on PBS.

So, that being said, who cares if the show is scripted or not? Jesus.

Of course it was mean spirited, they're the Osbournes, not the Brady Bunch.

I haven't seen it, but from what I heard, they made it seem like Jack killed one of their dogs.

The dog's not really dead, I really fail to see the problem.

I'm sorry you felt so much for the dog, but it was just a dog.

Ok first off if you consider Teletubbies and Barney reality shows you have a serious problem. I don't think I've ever seen a reality show on pbs unless you count the antiques road show as reality. Secondly what does it matter if it's real or fake a lot of people like it and don't care whether it's scripted or not. Third if you don't like it don't watch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Wow, the point of my post completely went over your head.

And, it's great to know that people can't think of any other PBS shows besides Barney the Teletubbies and Sesame Street. Watch it at different times, and you'll find programs like Nova and National Geographic.

Nova and National Geographic are documentary series with realistic views all in all they are not reality series. They are documentary series!

Definition of reality as in Merriam Webster:

"a real event, entity, or state of affairs <his dream became a reality> (2) : the totality of real things and events <trying to escape from reality> b : something that is neither derivative nor dependent but exists necessarily"

I'm not saying the events that take place in reality television are fake (that would be impossible), BUT they are scripted. Seriously, how many chateaus in France that you know of that house one man, and 12 women, all competing for a fake million dollars (or however much money it was) or a group of accountants and other American professionals living in Africa or on a deserted, remote island?

Now, a lion killing it's prey, or a turtle swimming in the ocean, THAT'S reality.

I'm not saying that I support Joe Millionare or anything, but its intentions were planned or like you say scripted but the whole show was not scripted. They told the dude what he was supposed to be they did not tell him what to say or who to pick! His decision of who was going and staying was his which would make it REAL. The women also were not given a script so everything they did was real even if their intentions were not. On surviver the plan is to see who can survive the best. They have to face and overcome REAL challenges. Now it may not be based on how they live their everyday lives, but it is reality for the situation in which they are put. Now i'm not saying that there is no acting because after all we all act in our everyday lives! Don't we? I think we do we act like we like something,or some one when we can't stand it. So basically if we go by what you say our whole lives are fake!

reply

You don't think the producers and the writers sway the outcomes of these reality tv shows? Just look at what's happening with American Idol, there's a huge conspiracy out there that the guy who came in second place actually won.

Seriously, reality tv shows are crap (I've said that from the beginning) and under the direction of the producers.

Do you kids want to be like the real U.N.; or do you want to squabble and waste time?

Of course the producers have a plan for the show, but they don't hand out scripts. What the people are going through is real they are making real choices. The only reality show that I am currently watching is a daytime reality series called starting over. www.startingovertv.com . it's where women move into a house and have life coaches that help them reach their goals, maybe you should check it out you might be find it interesting!

reply

Is it about divorced women?

Do you kids want to be like the real U.N.; or do you want to squabble and waste time?

It's about all types of women married and unmarried trying to reach their goals and feel better about themselve u can check it out at http://www.startingovertv.com

the show....is fake. It is scripted. OK the last episode was supposed to be fake hence y it shows u afterwards during the credits its fake.

also it shows u the outtakes of ozzy saying "i love you all....but ur all f'n mad" he had to do it like 5 times.

the show is scripted. obviously not 100% is but 75% prob is. also why does sharon go on about the kids using pot and drinking under-age?? what parent would go on national tv and say that? errmmm thats a police matter admitting jack is doing pot!!

long live ozzy!!

...if history has taught us anything, it is that you can kill anyone

reply

I'm not so sure.

It would seem to me that the "outtakes" under the credits were just some creative editing. It was a goof to make people wonder. I mean, did you see the outtakes from Austin Powers? Did you see HOW HARD to was to make Ozzy say a simple line? Now imagine trying to get ALL of them to follow any script. It would be a HUGE waste of time. Especially since none of them are actors.

No, for the most part, the show was "real". The last episode was a lark.

who cares if it's scripted or whatever?!... it's funny as hell either way. And it's good tv (as far as MTV goes that is). If nothing else it's a refreshing change from jackass

Ive just saw that episode last night, and i had my suspicions about it after about 5 minutes.

The scene where jack is on the tredmill (which is unbelievable in the first place - have you seen his gut?). See see jack facing away from the camera, facing his trainer. The camera then switches to a closer shot of the trainer talking (as if to jack).

However.... In that shot, if you look in the background, you will see a door with a small window in it. The door is closed. It also has a reflection of jack in the small window.

Thing is, to see jack in a reflection in that door, in that position, he has to be stood at the other end of the room BEHIND the trainer. Yet the trainer is still reacting as if jack is infront of him.

Check it for yourself.
