What gives?

How did she get to a computer with internet access in prison. She probably explains it in the movie, but I just don't want to watch it right now.

"That's what she said... Or he said"

The Office new season.

I don't recall her explaining it, but hey they allow convicts to have visitors. Why shouldn't they be allowed to use computer once in a while (under strict supervision ofcourse) I mean, if I'm right that is, that the staff may have been a bit surprised to see her go on line and talk of legal cases with some lawyer, but hey there's nothing illegal about it correct?
Well I wouldn't know. I'm not familiar with U.S prison system, but as long as she just harmlessly chatted about legal stuff, such as court cases they wouldn't have a reason to deny her a computer access

A lot of US prisons have computers so inmates can take classes. Most do not allow internet access. Depending on your "job" though, you can get limited access. Usually not to chat rooms though. Message boards - sometimes. There also is the friend factor. Having someone else chat for you. There is one website I saw a flyer for that will post an ad for you. You just fill out a form and send it to them. Supposedly to get pen-pals. I recently read that so many prisoners were using the internet to find and scam women/men, that the internet access was going to be either strictly limited or eliminated completely. There are also law libraries in most prisons, where you can (theoretically) research and work on your case. Though most of the law books are ridiculously out of date and grossly understocked, and while on the computer, the librarian is constantly looking over your shoulder to make sure you're not checking your email or anything else. Most have filters to block out just about everything.
