I'll have a large popcorn, a composition notebook, and number 2 pencil
let me start by saying i found this movie hilarious! if you didnt like this movie, or didnt think it was funny, thats fine
what's funny to me is the amount of posts saying this movie is racist. People read so much into movies today, instead of just watching them. This movie was full of stereotypes and slurs, on both sides. You had stereotypes about blacks, stereotypes about whites, stereotypes about rich people etc.
for each sterotype though, there was the exception. Yes, for all the stereotypes that were brought out by queen latifah, i love how she brought out that she could talk and act exactly like steve martin, but she didnt want to and or need to. and with all the sterotypes of a "suburban white guy" that steve brought to the movie, he didnt change his life at the end of the movie, and didnt have to "act black" throughout the movie, he did it when he needed to get into the door, just like anyone else would who needs to get in somewhere they wouldnt normally be admitted otherwise. if you are going to analyze a movie, you have to do it all the way.
Stereotypes don't come from thin air. No, they don't apply to everyone of that particular group, but for every stereotype, there is likely someone you know that it applies to. we need to be able to laugh at ourselves sometimes. there's good and bad in everything and good and bad in everyone.
There are many people "crying out" for social reform over movies. There are people doing studies on movies, and their "underlying ideas". if a movie has no characters of a certain race, it's racist, if it does, someone doesnt like how they're portrayed...its a movie, you dont like it... walk out... switch it off... seriously, calm down
You can find racism in any movie, in any song, in any book. You can find it anywhere, because racism is EVERYWHERE. it is perpetuated by people in every race, and projected towards people of every race, so you can FIND it anywhere, if you're looking for it, but guess what? chances are, it's already looking for you, and will most likely find you, so there's no need to look for it on the movie screen, the t.v. screen, the radio or on your bookshelf.
this is a lot longer than i planned. I'm sorry.... one last thing though, this is imdb and not forbes magazine, so all the people who put the anal in analyze, don't point out my spelling mistakes, split infinitives, lack of capitalization, punctuation etc.
