... she is a gazillion times funnier than his (ex)wife and she knows how to shake it. His (ex)wife is boring! A real pain in the - well - you know where. Now, please tell me, why do you think he shudda ended up with Charlene? (or not).
To me, Peter and Kate had no chemistry at all. Why he was so desperate to get her back was a mystery to me. Plus, while Howie really did want Charlene, she didn't really seem to be too taken with him. On top of that, Pete and Charlene practically had sex on his couch. They just seemed good together.
Yippee: "For king!" Yappee: "For country!" Yahooie: "And, most of all, for 10¢ an hour!"
"Aww, I thought it was sweet. They were in love. I like endings like those kinds of endings... "
Really? If Kate loved her ex so much then why did she shack up for the weekend in a cabin alone with her boy toy? She only decided she had feelings for him when she thought he had moved on with another woman. If she truly loved him, she never would have divorced him in the first place. I wish Peter had hooked up with Charlene instead. It was disappointing that he still wanted his ex wife in the end. Why he would want her back is baffling. She divorces him, fools around with her boy toy, then suddenly decides she wants her ex back? When she comes to see him does she apologize or ask him to forgive her for divorcing him. No! She was a real piece of work and he would have been better off with Charlene.
I agree. She treated him badly and took up with a younger guy who use to caddy for him. She goes away to a cabin alone with the younger guy so apparently she's screwing him. On that principle alone, he should never have gotten back with her. After all, she was the one who wanted the divorce. He would have been better off with Charlene. She was great with his kids and the two of them had much better chemistry.
Would have preferred to see the final scene with Peter hooking up with Charlene and when his ex wife arrives for him to tell her to go back to her boy toy. It would have served her right watching him throw his phone out the window when it rings, take Charlene in his arms as he tells her he loves her and they kiss while his ex wife watches; regretting ever divorcing him.
Roger Evert stated clearly in his review that the obvious logical ending was for Peter to end up with Charlene, but that due to marketing reasons (apparently white audiences don't like black love interests) they decided the clearly forced pairing of Charlene instead with the American Pie dad and Peter with his ex-wife.
