DENNIS RATES THE MOVIES. Anger Management
RATING: **** (4 out of 5).
I've been getting really, really tired of Adam Sandler. I mean, is he going to be in every movie from now until I die? Does he read for every movie that comes to his studio? Geez. But I liked this movie. And not because of the fantastic Jack Nicholson or the fact that I've always been hot for Marisa Tomei. Call me, Marisa. My begging and pleading is convincing and always fresh. John Turturro has a few scenes and he's great in this as well.
Like every movie that works, the script works. And the Buddhist Monastery scene is an Adam Sandler comedy classic better than the fight with Bob Barker and Happy Gilmore. This is a much, much better movie than Sandler's golfing farce. You'll be in stitches if you like any of the actors in that scene, and they're all terrific. Nicholson is priceless in drama or comedy, and his psychiatrist role is convincing and hilarious. I didn't think the spins and twists in the movie were hackneyed or contrived and the flick is destined to be an American Classic with a cult following for many years. Some parents might be uncomfortable with some of the language and sex jokes, but I think this movie is suitable for a mature Age 13.
