Were any Indians NOT offended by how Gandhi was portrayed?

Out of curiosity, including Indians from America and elsewhere.

Me neither. Party cause everyone was being made fun of in some way or another, and partly because none of this is to be taken seriously in any way at all so... Plus I thought it was kinda snazzy what they did with Ghandi.

reply

A lot of people were, it was one of the factors of the show's cancellation, the ratings werent good enough for them to fight it

p.s. Indians come from India, not america
and even if you call natives from America indian, they shouldnt be offended because ghandi was from India not America

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

reply

The OP could have meant the Indians who live in the US. Not Native Americans...

reply

Why be offended? They should be happy. Ghandi, in the very first episode said "I can't live up to being the good generous person the old Ghandi was... So I'm just gonna be a party machine! Woo!" or something of the sort. At least they had an explanation. And he's good comic relief. Only jackasses would be offended by such a silly character.

wonder how the kennedys felt about jfk...or if they even knew at all.

reply

I did. Indian-Americans, not American Indians (a.k.a Native Americans).

why?

reply

Technically I think it's on hiatus, rather than a formal cancellation. Probably because India wasn't a location where the show aired if memory serves me right.

I'm half indian and he's my favorite character ever.

I guess if you're going to wonder if Indians were offended by Gandhi, you have to wonder if Americans were offended by JFK, or Egyptians of Cleopatra.

I wasn't offended of how gandhi was portrayed. I was bummed when this show off the air. this show is funny.

reply

Gandhi's anti-violence, not anti-comedy

I'm not Indian, but it seems irational to be offended by Gandhi's portrayal.

1. They didn't purposely make him that way to represent the entire Indian community.

2. The whole idea of the show was the clones were supposed to be the opposite of their original form. It's not like they ONLY made Gandhi different from the actual Gandhi.

3. It's *beep* stupid to get offended over a television show. A bunch of overly sensitive a-holes are going to forever be responsible for the end of one of the greatest television shows ever.

Not really, because one of the "reasons" at least it is a rumour about why the show was cancelled is because apparently people in the Indian community were very offended by the portrayal of Ghandi, and that was why the show was cancelled. Not because of Cleo, or JFK. But I guess it is something to wonder about. Maybe they just didn't speak up.

I'm not Indian but I like Indian food. I was not offended by the portrayal.

I get annoyed when people are offended over something joking about their religion, so to hear that people are getting offended over a portrayal of a more so political, slightly spiritual figure is very frustrating.

1. The joke isn't really offensive, Gandhi is just all about having fun.

2. I think its a play on the theory that people are products of their environment. Even though he has the same DNA as the original Ghandi, living in modern USA has completely changed him.

In conclusion, I hope the people who got this show canceled get sick...not servery sick...just like, the flu or something...not swine flu though...maybe swine flu....

Ha nice. Yeah, it's just too bad everyone walks around with a large stick in their vaginas these days, cause who knows where they could have taken 'clone high' if it got picked up. It had everything in place: famous voices, funny plots, solid comedy (not like the new cartoons where they try WAY too hard to be offensive and edgy), etc...

Oh well, at least someone had the good sense to put it on DVD...
