Royal Tenebaums reference!

Kay so Clone High started playing again on teletoon, and i just caught it. It was the snowflake day episode.

It was in the end 'on a the next very special episode' portion that I noticed they were doing an obvious nod to the opening to my favorite movie of all time, the royal tenenbaums by Wes Anderson.

The audio was saying how the characters got a makeover, but it portrayed Joan just as Gwyneth Paltrow's character, Margot, with a cigarette in her mouth and a towel and robe wrapped around her, Ghandi as Owen Wilson's character, Eli Cash as he straightens his cowboy hat, and the principal and his robot as the Ben Stiller character, Chas and one of his sons as they shave while dressed in red sweat suits.

It really made my day (errr, night since it's late) and I'm wondering if anyone else ever caught up on this delightful treat?

Good call, dude.

Oh yeah I noticed that the first time I saw it. One of the many reasons why this show is so damn brilliant.

as long as we're on the subject of episode 11. When abe gets glitter in his face about 15 minutes into the episode (not including commercials) he yells something as he falls backward. It could be "GLITTER!" but it sounds like something slightly more slur-like.

I can't remember the exact scene, but could it possible be "DINGER!" that fake curse word often used in Clone High.

reply

it's most certainly "glitter" said with the intensity and inflection of his classic "dinger"

I saw it the first time. And considering the huge fan of Wes Anderson I am (Favorite director), it confirmed that Clone High is one of the best shows of all time. That and the use of Dashboard Confessionals and other great bands, making it have the best pre-made soundtrack on television ever.

This Was Not Just A Matter Of Chance. These strange things happen all the time.
