Am I missing something?

I'm sorry to be "that guy", but...am I missing something here? People go *beep* about this show, and the idea actually sounds like a really good setup for an animated sitcom, but...seriously, what am I not getting?

As far as I can tell, it's just an animated comedy that's trying waay too hard without knowing what it wants to do.

It's either trying to be a high-school drama parody (in which case it needs to actually PARODY something instead of just referencing high-school drama tropes) or it's trying to be that hideous genre of "it's funny cos it's not funny" or "it's funny cos it's lame", in which case it needs to curl up in a corner and die because it's the most exploitative, lazy excuse of a comedy genre that's ever existed...

But I at least respect that audiences don't flock around something with so much commitment without good reason, so...seriously, am I looking at this show in the wrong way? Can someone enlighten me as to why this show has such a committed following when the first few episodes have made me physically cringe? Does it get better?

I'm not trying to troll anyone...if you're a fan, I genuinely want to know what you admire about Clone High? What makes it stand out to you?

I think you are trying to hard to "figure it out"
Its just a dumb show about highschool...but with clones of famous/historical people who are way different from their original

Thats really it for the most part.

Can someone enlighten me as to why this show has such a committed following when the first few episodes have made me physically cringe? Does it get better?

Maybe you do have to watch more episodes, I don't really remember how the first few held up since i haven't seen it in a few years but it is one of my favorite shows...the crazy characters, the randomness, the campy sarcastic teen melodrama
it all makes for a hilarious show and pretty original when it came out.

All comedy does not require over-analysis. It's funny to see historical icons taking on slightly skewed versions of their known historical personalities in a high school context. Yes, it never quite reached it's potential. Most comedies require a few years for the writers and show runners to figure out what they are and what they do best. Unlike shows like Seinfeld, which got the time it needed to find greatness, Clone High was cancelled too soon so it never got there. That doesn't mean it didn't have its moments.
