Were the gals seniors or juniors?

The one gal played by Julia Stiles applied to law school so presumably she was a senior.

Her BFF Betty who got married later talked about coming back to campus the following year to keep the professor on her toes. Ok, so is she a junior? Why was she wearing a graduation robe at the end? Wellesley College doesn’t have a masters program, or at least didn’t back then. Why would she be going to classes the following year?

If they are seniors, why are they taking an intro art history course? Usually seniors are done with core classes and are taking all the advanced courses in their major their senior year.

In the first class scene, the students all shame the professor because they all memorized the text. Big deal, they’re all seniors and know how to ace the intro courses. The professor was prepared to teach freshmen and sophomores so it was not her fault that her lecture was too basic for these older students. The college set her up for failure by stacking an intro class with seniors.
