The breif part where he confronts Sirius in the Shack, he is seething with anger and expressing how he wants to see Sirius suffer. If you think about, it seems very arbitrary (at that point in the story) for Snape to despise this man. If Snape had been evil, he would have been on Sirius's side if he thought Sirius was a Voldemort supporter. But in hindsight, this is a very candid/genuine moment for Snape: he thinks he's confronting the person who betrayed Lily. It's similar to Harry's reaction, and it subtly reveals that Snape is deeply anti-Voldemort.
I kinda disagree. Let's pretend Snape is bad for a second. Why would he risk going to Azkaban over a fellow DE when Voldemort is dead or at least thought to be? He had a secure position at Hogwarts.
Snape has his own reasons to hate them, Potter Sr and Black bullied him when they were young. But that's not it, as a teacher at Hogwarts, it is also his duty to ensure the safety of kids in peril. And yes, I never doubted his allegiance, I knew the wizard closest to Dumbledore must be trustworthy and he was a selfless man whose intent was to protect his beloved Lily's kid. He may seem harsh in front of Harry but he didn't like the fact that he reminded him of Potter Sr. Lily on the other hand, he was willing to do anything for her, he honored her memory and protected her son until his very end.
He may seem harsh in front of Harry but he didn't like the fact that he reminded him of Potter Sr.
A lot of people say this, but its not true. Snape hates the fact that Harry reminds him of LILY. This is why all throughout the series Snape keeps saying how Harry is just like his father. The pain of Lily's death never fades for Snape, not one iota. The only thing he can do is bury it, because letting the memory of Lily surface puts Snape in more pain than a thousand Cruciatus curses. Snape's ability to bury his pain at Lily's death is what made him so good at occlumency to the point that he can even fool Voldemort. Its kind of a reverse of Lily's love for Harry saving his life. Snape's love for Lily is so strong that his effort to bury it so deep down gives him the ability to mask his emotions to even Voldemort.
The only threat to that is Harry. Snape isn't in a position to ignore Harry, he has to interact with him. If Snape sees Harry as the only thing left of Lily, all those feelings come rushing back, so instead he keeps repeating that Harry is all James.
I still want to know what the moments from this movie gave JKR "goosebumps" as she put it, because it was foreshadowing for books 6 and 7. I wonder if a couple Snape moments were among them.
The only reason Snape turned to the Order is because of Lily. He doesn't give a *beep* about Sirius. He hates Sirius's guts, especially given their past. Doesn't matter who's side he's on, he wouldn't mind seeing Sirius die.
