Castle used in filming?

Does anyone have any idea where the castle they used for Castle Dracula is in real life?

The bottom sections of it look like Rasnov, but then there's the whole upper section which I can't seem to find (on the internet) anywhere in Romania. (That's assuming, of course, that the castle used is in Romania).

This one?

I don't think that's it; the one in the movie looks different, older and more ruined.

Poenari was the second home from Vlad Tepes, But Castle Bran from Brasov the first and is full of mistery

reply

From what I've read, Vlad spent two days locked in the dungeon of Bran Castle, but never actually lived there.

And I'm almost certain that the castle in this film isn't Bran. The castle in the film is ruined; Bran appears excellently kept.

Only the bottom portion of the castle was used in the actual production. The rest of the castle was re-created using CGI. Much like in the film "Batman Forever" where the lower portion of the old Customs House (now the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian) in Lower Manhattan, New York City, was used in creating the "Ritz Gotham Hotel" (mostly CGI).

I thought as much. So the bottom portion must have been Rasnov, and the rest was CGI. Thanks!
