If re-boot, would Wash live?

If there is a franchise buy-out and the series started up again would they continue with Wash being dead or would they make it a "prequel" to the movie?

reply

Joss Whedon apparently said that if the franchise was re-started after Serenity, he'd simply ignore what happened in the film and pick it up from where the original TV series left off, so, presumably, Wash would still be alive. (Assuming Whedon was at the helm, of course.)

reply

Thank you! That's awesome.
I wonder how much the franchise would cost to buy out. I remember hearing folklore that fans were donating money for this to happen. I'm not sure if all original cast members would even be willing to re-sign for more seasons. Then would it be strong enough to go head-to-head with other prime-time shows or get booted to a SyfY original series.

reply

Of course, then he'd have to kill someone else off, to kee p the audience on their toes.

But he couldn't kill any main characters if it came before Serenity.

So I guess it would be goodbye Badger and/or Niska. But maybe we'd also get to meet Mr Universe.

Depends on what he meant by "ignore". If he really meant "ignore", then he's free to do as he will. If he meant "fill in some time between Firefly and Serenity", then he wouldn't be. I suspect he meant the former.

ETA: Not trying to be snarky; it could be reasonably interpreted either way, but I think he did mean the former.

Both Joss Whedon and Alan Tudyk have said that killing Wash had always been the plan.
I'm not doubting that Joss may have said years ago that if the series restarted he would continue from where the series ended. I'm having a hard time picturing him doing that with everyone 14 years older.

I would love to see the Shepherd Book comic done as an episode. I never read the comic so I'm still ignorant of his detailed history, although I can guess, so I'd like to see it as an episode.

Ron Glass is still alive, right?

reply

That would be cool.

Yeah, I heard that too.
Was at a Q&A at a Comic-Con I believe.
But then Nathan and Alan were present on the panel so he might have said it for Alan's benefit. (?)

Well, since River was lost in her own mind, it could have been a dream or an alternate reality that she for saw as a possibility. I really, really, REALLY wish they could reboot it.

I just re-re-rewatched it again. Love it!

I don't think they could get all of the original actors back together, but maybe a couple (Wash/Zoe) helping a new crew "bound" to Firefly. I'd watch!

After all these years I still can't imagine what the thought process was that led to "Let's cancel it". Mind-Boggling.

BTW - Ron Glass is still alive, celebrated his 71st BDay a week yesterday!
