No aliens?
I like this show but there are no aliens. For a Science fiction space show that is disappointing. There is not much variety in characters if they are all human.

shareThere still isn't any reason for aliens to have any contact with us. We're a warring species, almost intent on self distruction. Our leaders are the biggest lying scoundrels of the population, and we continue to take advantage of everyone we meet, and celebrate when we cheat someone out of something. Who would want to meet someone like that?
shareAnyone who's curious or excited to meet new life. Or a species so far advanced they'd have no more to fear from us than we would from termites.
Let's be bad guys.

captkirk,
I have made two attempts to get into this series, once in 2011 and again just now, as I call myself a "science fiction TV fan" and I just feel it is my duty to give all sci-fi TV shows a good chance of winning me over.
However, despite two attempts, despite really wanting to like this show, I just can't.
None of the regular characters appeal to me.
Despite being set in a spaceship, there is a non-sci-fi feeling about this series that gets on my nerves. And that never ending western musical score that plays over the whole thing makes it all feel like a Clint Eastwood western.
But you guys who like the show are the lucky ones, and I am the unlucky one for not liking it.
There have been several sci-fi TV shows with no aliens in the regular cast (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost In Space, Blake's 7, Buck Rogers season one, etc) and they are all just fine with me. But this...
It might be an age thing...I am 50...which is younger than the entire cast...maybe I need a middle aged character to connect with?
I believe Ron Glass was in his 50s when he played Shepherd Book.

Both Firefly and Battlestar Galatica (1978) have an episode or two that take place on the planet hosting Serenity Vale (hence, "Serenity" the movie). Anyhow, in BSG, there *ARE* aliens in Serenity. Therefore, you could say that there are aliens in Firefly, but that they are just long-dead as BSG happens hundreds of thousands of years before the events in Firefly.
