The gun noises ruin it

I've only watched 5 episodes and it's a decent show but the weird noises take me right out of the show it's like they've done it as a joke.

If your guna have weird laser sounds atleast make up new weapons like other sci-fi series.

reply

They weren't lasers.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Am not saying they are but they have weird laser sounds like a kids toy, maybe it doesn't bother anyone else but it takes me out of the show as it's like watching laser-tag.

reply

agreed, that the gun noises were stupid--revolvers and pistols sounding like lasers (see shoot out in War Stories). That and the heavy handed western theme (did they really have to make it LITERALLY like the 19th century old west?) detracted from the series. Thank god they didn't do that in Serenity.

Technology marches on. Do you think the guns we have now sound exactly like the ones from 500 years ago?

Yes. That's the story they wanted to tell. Without it, Firefly is just another space show.

Thank god they didn't do that in Serenity.

The one thing missing from the movie.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Incorrect. No horses either. Thank god.

reply

Damn. That's right. Should've had horses. Then it would've been perfect.

reply

Heart of Gold episode, they rode horses, Mal specifically instructed no shooting the horse, it kills them giving cover, just excite them because when upset they are unpredictable.

Wasn't me

reply

Yes, I know. But I said there were no horses in the movie. Unless I missed them.

You are sin.

I do find it a little distracting. Just a touch, though. Don't usually care with the assault rifles and submachine guns, but when the 1880s revolvers are making "pew pew" noises, it does look weird.

If they modified the guns a bit, it'd be fine. Mal's wielding a gun very clearly modeled on a Colt Navy revolver, but it's different enough that it doesn't throw me off to see it (hear it) make "laser sounds".
