Really not feeling Inara

I feel like the concept of the character (and her stunning wardrobe) was genius, but Morena's such a blank actress that she just couldn't sell it. What makes it worse is the total lack of romantic chemistry between her and Nathan, making the love plot REALLY onerous.

To me, she's the one casting mishap. Had the show continued, she would have to be written out. There're only so many close-ups of her blank expression one can take!

Not at all. Everyone loved Inara and Morena.

Never!

Can't stop the signal.

reply

So are you trying to say Morena wasn't blank? I have yet to see her emote anything on here or Homeland.

I have: Serenity, Shindig, Our Mrs. Reynolds, Trash, Heart of Gold, Objects in Space.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

What specifically was she emoting?

reply

Sadness, fear, regret, disappointment, insight, bewilderment, joy.

reply

She was just speaking the lines that suggested those emotions. Her face expressed either or an irritating smile.

reply

Not at all. Tears, smiles, grins, wide-eyed, laughter.

Everyone has a right to an opinion. So do you.

That does not mean your opinion is correct.

Persisting in your opinion as though it is an objective fact...

... Just proves you to be an ass.

reply

People like her in Homeland because of the tits.

reply

Tit's, WTF, are you mental, she is tall and skinny, pretty woman, but she's lacking in that department!

Wasn't me

reply

Not everyone likes big saggy tits.

You realize not all tits sag, and there are many bigger than an "A" cup that are perky!

I came to Firefly because I love Nathan in Castle. And I have to agree on the chemistry thing at least. Being used to watch Nathans/Castles chemistry with Stana Katic/Beckett on Castle, I was dissapointed with the lack of romantic chemistry with Inara/Morena too.

reply

Others can see you're missing. Mal and Inara have incredible chemistry. Everyone knows they're madly in love...except that they can't admit it to themselves.

How sad there are those who can't see it. Oh, well. It takes all kinds.

Go watch her in Deadpool. She traded perverse snark with Ryan Reynolds shot for shot.

Inara was supposed to have a certain degree of serenity (no pun intended) about her.

Well there was a very good reason for her being the way she was. Inara was dying and we would have learned that later on.

I thought they had great chemistry, Inara just held back because she already knew she was terminally ill.

Yo momma

reply

Inara wasn't meant to be played over emotionally. She was hiding a big secret which was implied in Serenity.
I loved Morena playing her!

I loved her. I read somewhere that her wardrobe was based on Natalie Portman/ Padme's from Star Wars, and I have come to think that her character is what Padme should have been (minus the companion angle of course). Her quiet strength and reserve is perfect. She seems older and wiser than her years. I didn't actually hate Padme the way some did, but I wish we'd gotten to know her better. I feel like we know Inara despite not having her entire backstory. She might even be my favorite of the entire cast, but they are all so great it's really impossible to choose just one.
