I mean for a sci-fi it's pretty weak, the dialogue between characters is very weak, and Nathan Fillion doesn't have this believable Captain aura. He makes a more believable social sciences teacher.
I mean no matter what genre it's extremely strong, the dialogue between characters is *beep* crazy awesome, and everybody is insanely good, as if born for this part.
Fixed it for ya.
Seriously, if you say red is green, I can only shrug and tell you you're wrong.

Well, if you're such a joker, then try to be original, other than spewing this "fixed for ya" that seems to be rather popular trololoo here in imdb.
But i guess the core of my problem lies with Nathan Fillion. He's always been a very weak actor in my opinion. Doesn't have the looks, voice, nor multi-faceted character for different roles. For me he's as boring actor as Peter Krause. Completely invisible.
PS. By looks i mean that if the actor/actress doesn't have any quality attributes, then an interesting looks is something that could pardon the bad acting. Vin Diesel, for example - he just oozes with this charismatic aura, but his acting is very low in my opinion.
LoL they didn't even teach the actors basic fighting skills here. The fight scenes are the biggest joke. In the alleged punch moment or some fast move, the camera always turns away, so that you can't see the move. Usually a trick when the actors weren't trained basic simple moves and grasps.
Gotta disagree. It's good sci-fi. It even avoids the space is noisy trope that befalls so many sci-fi shows and movies.
I love the dialogue. It's funny, clever, and unique in blending chinese with english. Nathan Fillion is a gem in this. He's got great warmth when he's with his crew but an aura of darkness when he's pissed.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Watched episode 4. The alleged Reaver-toxicized ship member. What is this joke? And this is how they try to scare the viewers with this big and ugly Reaver brutality? ROFL.
Watching this show gives me the vibe as like i'm watching Starship Troopers 2, while thinking how good the first movie was, and what kinda joke low-budget one the second one is.
...With the difference we don't have any prologue to this (that was very good), and instead of a movie it's a TV show.
All the 720/1080p complete packages on the internet have this episode included. Originally it was supposed to be aired lastly (i think), because Fox didn't like the quality of it, so it was scrapped as an intro. And, yes, it's as bad as other episodes so far. :)
No, no. I meant a literal prologue before the episodes.
But if you're confused about the show/movie titles, Serenity (2002) pt 1 and 2 is the pilot to the show. Serenity (2005) is the feature length movie which was shown in theaters.
Either way, both are fantastic. Good action, heart warming stories and fun characters. Definite high points for the franchise.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Okay, i misread. But Serenity pr1 and 2 were scrapped by Fox Entertainment. They didn't like the production quality, so they were originally aired last back in 2002. I know about the movie, will watch it after the show. I'm not putting much hope into it. Again, the Captain is better suited for a high school teacher. :)
Post-poned, but not scrapped. They still aired both parts. It wasn't the production quality they didn't like. In fact, Fox has never had anything negative to say about Firefly's production quality. It was actually quite high.
What Fox wanted was something with more action. Hence The Train Job. A classic western trope.
Nathan Fillion would make a great high school teacher. He'd bring the same charm as he does in Firefly.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Charm is only part of Mal's character. We see his commanding presence. We see how charismatic he can be. All laid out in various scenes across the series.
Guy makes for a great captain. Leads, but also knows when to command. Fillion perfectly captured that in his performance.
And charming of course already implies innate charisma.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Come on, man. The scene in episode 5 where Simon protects his sister from burning on the pole is ridiculous acting. The dialogue, the mimics between them two. It's RIDICULOUS. Straight on bad acting.
That's a great scene. "Big damn heroes, sir." That became a rallying cry for the Browncoats. Heck, Serenity was unofficially known as The Big Damn Movie.
And Safe has one of my favorite moments: River's dance. One of the few times we actually get to see the poor girl without the burden of the trauma inflicted on her.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Oh, i already forgot. The way River is expressing her pain is also crappy acting. In my opinion, of course. I've never cared much for Summer Glau, but i do seem to remember seeing her in other roles doing a much better job. Which ones, i can't recall unfortunately. But true, Firefly was made back in 2002 and she was very young back then.
PreachCaleb, can I just say: you are a wonderful human being, and my personal hero for today? Licker's critique is rather hollow and vacuous, and at several times that critique included choices of language that seemed almost intentionally chosen to rile up a strong response, yet you treated said critique with respect, you kept hitting the positives, and you didn't stoop to attacking the critic. You've done good work here.
I'm just such a big fan of Firefly, I can always focus on the positives. It's just so much more preferable. Every critique, reminds me of something I love about it.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
Hence why your replies can't be taken overly seriously. You're blinded by your "fanboyism". :) Luckily i am no fan of any TV show out there, just enjoy for what they are (which the Firefly isn't).
That's all right. It's my pleasure to discuss what I love about Firefly. After 15 years, it's still as enjoyable as ever. I rewatch it once or twice every year.

Watching this show gives me the vibe as like i'm watching Starship Troopers 2, while thinking how good the first movie was, and what kinda joke low-budget one the second one is.
A movie about humans fighting giant bugs that are throwing rocks at Earth across the light years of interstellar space is what you consider a good science fiction movie? That certainly explains a lot.

After reading this whole thread, I truly feel sorry for you that you cannot see the magic that is 'Firefly'. It seems that you are looking for something that the show was never intended to be. It is a light-hearted*, insightful, and delightful look into a possible future.
The dialogue is maybe the most quotable show I have ever seen, simply brilliant writing and execution.
*not so light-hearted when you get to the Ariel episode. A bit of darkness sets in, and stays there through the end of the series, and in the movie as well. The character development is so good.
That being said, your responses have been polite and seem to come from your heart. Not everything is for everyone. Sincerely hope you will give it a chance, and finish the whole thing out, including the movie Serenity. Maybe by then you will understand why SO many people love the show.
~Oh, I'm well aware it's not a picnic, Mr. Save the Day~ (Fitz, Agents of Shield)
I could do the exact same as I did over at the BtVS boards and pick a random episode of this show and still extract a good number of quoteable lines from it.
Thats why its awesome dialogue quality.
Thats not something you can do with many shows.
Heck theres shows like The Vampire Diaries in which I cannot think of a single instance of actually funny dialogue. TVD just takes itself waaaay to serious all the time.
And unlike with BtVS, I dont even have a chance to pick an episode thats actually a bit dull. Well maybe the pilot is a bit, I dont know.

Ajones47, I was thinking the same thing. Preachcaleb was positive and respectful even though it's obvious that something he loves is being denigrated. This is how grown up people disagree! Thanks for the good example.
Based upon your other posts, it must be really bad to dislike every movie / show that you watch. Why do you even bother to watch any if your going to dislike them?
Going through someone's post history won't get you to closer to anything:P
I didn't have to go through your post history to know you were a troll. Everyone grasps that people have different opinions. Only trolls pretend they don't just so they can stir people up.

Your point being? I'm sure it's not something BigDDD wanted to accomplish, but ended up sending his picture to some third party man for some weird reason:D I hope we don't end up here arguing to the point of you wanting to send a picture of yourself.
Don't worry about my teenage girl saltiness. It's in balance. :)
A good sci-fi TV show? Battlestar Galactica. Has much more refined polishing. Story is engaging, actors do a good job in relating to each other. That's one of my main concerns with Firefly that the actors do a very rookie-like job. I'm not sure whether it's intentional to give this loose and often "over-forced" interplay between them, but doesn't work out.
I get that Firefly is that type of sci-fi that fancied a big fan club. It just is the type of show, but to me it's still crap. Emotionless. Detail-less.
