Your first 'Crimson Head'

First let me say I am a HUGE Biohazard fan and have been since the first one came out. I've played all the titles but Nemeisis. I just got myself a Gamecube in December, and finally picked up the REmake this week. I'm overwhelmed by nostalgia - blah blah...

So I finally came face to face with a CH, after all the hype about them. I wasn't so scared actually, and kind of ignored the memo. Then i read the reviews and they were all flipping out over these guys, and started marching around the mansion with my trusty kero-can and taking out the trash. :)

So I finally made my way back to the hall of mirrors, and knelt down to torch two in one (the zombie i killed landed on top of the already dead one). And I jumped a mile high when it moved. Totally didn't expect one to get up JUST as i was about to torch it. Maybe when i walked next to it, but not when i knelt down. He had me in a corner instantly.

*beep* he owned me. After a couple swipes, i finally broke free and made it down the hall to regroup. So i thought i could just stand at the end of the hall and plug it enough times before it would reach me. *beep* it dodn't even blink at my bullets, and i got a face full of nails AGAIN. A shotgun blast to the ribcage finally took him down. It was the first time in any RE game i ever stood there and shot a corpse for 5 seconds. I even kero'd the sucker to make sure it didn't come back AGAIN. wow, I do not wan't to fight any more of thsese.

But it wasn't over, i went back to refil my can and came back to take care of the other hall of mirrors zombie. Expecting him to still be on the ground, i ran through the hall (how many bad news RE stories start with "i thought it was safe, so i ran..."?) And as i was running I was like "wait a minute, something is wrong with my step rythum. it's like..."
*camera changes*
*Crimson head - point blank - with arm raised*
*handgun*
*BLAM*

It wasn't until his headless body met the ground that i was even able to process what happened. The LUCKIEST damn shot in the world. Holy crap, these SOBs are the coolest things ever in a RE game.

Any cool Crimson Head stories?

Same here, in the hallway outside the drug room. That's where that corpse had been lying all the time, but it was already dead so I didn't bother. But then I walked past it AND IT GOT UP!! WTF!!! Scared the living c##p out of me! Fortunately I had become so used to backing away from anything that crawls and moans that I instantly ran from it before I realized what it was. That was my salvation. I ran past the pole in the hall, and the CH zombie got confused about what side to run past it. By the time he figured out and ran at me, I figured out this was no ordinary zombie, and I was ready to give him the full blast of my shotgun. And another when he got up. Thank God I usually carry the shotgun when I'm going around, so I am ready for this sort of thing. I felt a whole pleitora of emotions, ranging from thrills and scares of discovering this new zombie characteristic, to an immense feeling of satisfaction that I waisted him the first time. It quickly turned into the cold shower of realizing why dead zombies don't disappear, and that I had left quite a lot of them 'dead' around the house.... OH...MY...GOD...!!!! I'M IN A HOUSE FULL OF SUPER ZOMBIES!!!!AAAARRGGHHH!!!!!!
I think no RE player will forget his first CH zombie. Especially when he/she didn't know about them before. Nice detail that a running super zombie already featured in a RE game long before it became a regular thing in 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead (2004). Puts RE right between the zombie classics where it belongs.

I actually ran past my first crimson head and didn't notice, I just thought "Oh he got up quite quick" as I legged it (this was shortly after getting the key from the Knight room). The first one I actually faced was the one that falls out of the Coffin (at the time I thought he was George Trevor, but I later found out I was mistaken).

I thought "ah, another zombie, that's it" but no, said zombie can run, scream, slash you with his licker type claws. HELP! Come back Lisa, all is forgiven.

i didn't know anything about the crimson heads, like what they were because this was my first re game and i thought i'd give it a try. in the hall of mirrors, that one by the door to that room where you have to put the fake key in....holy *beep* that thing scared the crap out of me!!! the controller went flying out of my hands and it took me a while to recover from the shock. another thing was i think i was playing the game alone at the time!! so i went back to that room and there were 2 crimson heads and they amushed me into a corner!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish more horror games would have things like these!! if i ever go into the game industry, i'm gonna make a horror game with creatures based off of these! hey, what if there was a mode where there were just crimson heads, no slow zombies? that would keep you awake!

I was at the top of the E. Stairs Hallway and one came at me, I wasn't really scared I just fired a shot out of my handgun and what can I say I got lucky and decapitated it. I did get the crap scared out of me when I was in the W. Stairs Yellow hall when I leaned down to burn this body, (not the fat zombie)
he sprang up and I almost sh** myself.

Just some more helpful tips:

Since the amount of kerosine in the game is limited (two jerricans per building, I believe, enough for 8 servings), you can economize by 'piling up' zombies. That is, try to have them fall over each other if space and ammo allow it. When you pour kerosine over one zombie and set it on fire, it will also burn the others under or very near it, thereby saving precious fuel.

Prevention is better than curing, they say, so try to master the 'decapitation technique'. That is, aim upwards with the shotgun, let the zombie get almost near you (just before he lunges at you), and blast its head off with a bang. It requires some careful timing, possibly a few attempts (not to mention some extensive cursing), but if done right, the zombie is dead and won't cause any further trouble, with just one bullit: maximum efficiency. Save the kerosene for cases in which decapitation is hard or impossible.

A crawling zombie will grab your leg, and your character will squash its head with his/her foot. So, if you have enough herbs or first aid sprays, letting it grab your leg can be an ammo-and-kerosene saving thing, and a leg bite doesn't nearly cause the amount of damage that a neck bite does.

Sometimes, bullits from a hand weapon causes an exploding head as well. The chance that you achieve this with a Baretta is slight, but it happens quite often with the Magnum.

Try to save your incindary grenades and use them on zombies, rather than Hunters or bosses. It has the advantage of killing zombies and setting them on fire the same time: another fuel saver.

My new tactic - Don't shoot the Zombie if you don't have too. I have made it a sport running Marathon through their ranks. As for the Crimson Head, my first was in the corridor where Kenneth is found. I was on my way down to the cellar, and all went fine, I walked past the zombie body and went down there. After unwisely having killed the zombies and wasting ammo, I came back up, only to jump in my chair and die a quick death.

If you run out of kerosene, I learned that (As Jill) using the Inceneration shells in the Grenade launcher works just as well IF you hit them right.

As for my first Crimson Head:

I had just gotten the hang of REmake by figuring out the Type C controller (my preferred one). I'd read the booklet which said you needed to use the Shotgun to remove the head or burn the bodies with kerosene and the lighter. So,I'd finally gotten the kerosene and was torching the truckers, and went into the east hall 2nd floor, right before the room where you get the armor key. I walked in and suddenly the zombie I'd wasted in front of the mirror started slashing the h*ll out of me. I had to take him out with my shotgun, and, although the game had scared me before (and I loved it) I entered a whole new realm of shock and horror when I met the guy, and words were said that would have made my mother blush (actually, they were screamed).

"How do you use fear for protection when it is Fear that's trying to kill you?"

reply

True. It's fun to play the game without killing any zombies, or hunters etc... Walk around without a gun or knife. The thrill...

reply

To be honest, none them scared me too much. The cutscenes with the blood dropping out was groos and scary. Then the hall of mirrors was a little scary, but I knew it was coming from my friends. And in the lab at the end of the game, by the time they got up, i was way past them too catch them.

The first time I ran into Crimson Heads (I love AND hate those things at the same time. Go figure.) was in the hallway just above the Save Room (The one where ammo appears later) I exited the Library door into the Hallway, and 2 Crimson Heads came at me from different directions! I nearly dropped the controller in a true 'Holy $!&#!' moment, and then quickly picked it back up with enough time to kill the one right im front of me before his slash-happy buddy got the better of me. Fatally.

Haha I have a hallway of mirrors one (the first one I ever ran into) It was the sucker your talking about I bent down to torch him and he got up and came after me well I shot it a few times then left the room, I came back and he was'nt there so I continue my way through the game, after fighting Lisa (i think) I stupidily came back through that hallway and it turns out the CH had been stuck in a corner and it jumped out....I was on red.....I got PWNED, twas a sad day indeed

Another Crimson Head Tip: When using the pistol, if you aim down at the zombie's knee, you can blow it off and the zombie will not return as a crimzon head, the body disappears. Much better odds with the pistol to the leg rather than the pistol to the head.

Anyway, you guys gotta check out this kick-ass crimson head video. It's just awesome: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bcWWlomQXQs

The first time I played it, I didn't know how to use the kero, and Crimson Heads kept popping up everywhere so I just blew their heads off with the Shotty. Lol

My brother had a save that he was unable to complete because of crimson heads. There is a part in the game where like 5 zombies break through the windows and crawl in. He killed them all, but never went back to torch them. Next time he went back to that room, there were 5 crimson heads, he could not pass the room no matter how many shotgun shells he unloaded.

Oh, I remember my first Crimson Head...but I'm going to tell my tale of another CH encounter I had instead of my first one. Why? Because it has a nice ending to it. :D

I was playing the game one night in the dark, and there was a storm outside, which set up a nice atmosphere to play RE in. My bird was sitting idly on my shoulder, watching the TV in fascination as she always did.

I entered the hall of mirrors when two Crimson Heads came changing at me, one on either side, so I was pretty much screwed. One of them let out a roar and I swear, at that exact same time, the phone in the kitchen rang and, for some unknown reason, my bird chriped loudly right in my ear. The surprise from the two unexpected noises made me yell, and I was almost pwned by those Crimson Heads, but I shown them who's boss. :D

reply

In the same room, one of the Crimson's sliced at me, missed, and took down the other zombie allowing me to make good my escape! Cheers mate!

reply

Crimson Heads are both cool and annoying! I remember being ambushed by two in the Mirror Hallway, and I threw my controller at the TV, I was that surprised. Luckily, it hit the pause button, and I was able to pwn both of them, with just a handgun, two single shots, two decapitations. Now that is pure luck. I even remember yelling "Yippie-Kai-Yay, *beep* at their dead bodies.

reply

Just a couple of queries:

1. What is pwn?
2. What does 'Yippie -Kai- Yay mean? I mean why the Kai? Yippy I understand.

reply

1. PWN means to own.
2. Watch Die Hard and see what it means. IMDB's stupid censors blocked the rest of it.

reply

To own? That's a new saying I din't quite understand either.

reply

My first actual encounter with a crimson head was in that little room that has the crappy door, where you first encounter the Hunter, I shot a zombie that was in that small hallway where that door is that leads you to the residents house and I forgot to torch it, I go back into that room and the crimson head wakes up and runs at me, but the daft thing is running into that dresser, so I just pull out my shotty and blamo, the zombie's dead.

"To own," i.e. to dominate/defeat. In other words to win against them.

I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?

reply

Yippie-ki-yay or some variation thereof is a stereotypical cowboy saying (the first time I heard it was in the theme song to Nickelodeon's Hey, Dude - "Yippie-ki-yi-yay!" "Yippie-ki-yi-what?" "Like the cowboys say!").

However, Jbird7777 was actually quoting Die Hard, although IMDb censored it. In that film, bad guy Hans Gruber accuses the hero, John McClane, of buying too much into the US' cowboy culture about the lone American hero succeeding against impossible odds. McClane responds with a sarcastic, "Yippie-ki-yay, mother-*beep*-er" which has since become, more or less, his catchphrase, usually spoken right as he's about to do something awesome, or, rather, to "pwn" an enemy.

Oh man I have a good first Crimson Head story. First of all, I didn't even know anything about the game really, so I had no idea the zombies would come back and be FASTER than before.

So I'm going through the hallway with Kenneth, and I walk over a zombie and he immediately stands up. I'm like "Oh damn, guess I'll have to kill this guy again." Then he starts RUNNING. I was like I didn't know they could run!!! So I BOOK it for the door back to that dining-hall type place (with the long table). And I'm running for the door, pressing the A button AS FAST AS I CAN, and I actually somehow run PAST the door, and the zombie comes into the screen and I'm yelling GO THROUGH THE DOOR! GO THROUGH THE DOOR! And I make it through JUST as the zombie gets to me. It was wicked. I love this game.

reply

What's funny is when a Crimson Head or a Hunter LUNGES at you and then you open the door - sloooooowly and calmy. The enemy respectfully holds fire whilst you enter the next room.

reply

I forgot the name of the room but it's where you first find the arrowhead and where a couple of those mirrors are found (one door leads to the key puzzle with the spikey statue) and I was going to the door, he just practically floated up and I'm like "ooh ****" and he ran towards me, about to swipe, raises my shotgun to his face and BLAMMO! blew his damn face off, HA! that'll teach him to mess with me

reply

Right well you know that area you go through with teh Armour Key and its near where the tiger thing is where you put in the blue gem and stuff, well thers that room where the zombie comes out the closet (lol) and then I went out and for some reason i went back in.. and a Crimson Head just CAME RIGHT AT ME. I jumped right out of my *beep* seat. Seriously.. i barely got out of their alive lol. Scared the hell out of me.

reply

It was in that hall that leads to the room where you find Richard and the Knight room. I just finished the puzzle in the knight room and got the item I needed. Then I start to walk past the room where Richard was (I got to him too late thereforer he died) then all of a sudden, a CH bursts right through the door at me. I just booked it out the nearest door and never returned to that hallway again. I was aware of CH, but following you through doors?!

"THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!"

reply

I've had regualar zombies follow me through doors, but never crimson heads. That'll be to come I guess!

reply

Where is the file on crimson heads?

I knew about them previous to playing the game so i made sure to burn every body. i was doing fine and decided to burn that already dead body near the corridor where you get the armour key, i was thinking " i know he'll be a CH soon, better burn him now" just as i bent down he popped up, i was like "ah *beep* bailed down the coridoor got me shotgun out and waited for him, just as he got near i blasted him down (first time i had fired the shotgun as well) i was like "take it suckka" he got straight back up and was practically on top of me when i just knocked the stick up and fired, blew his head right up. Crimson Heads? ha! ive shat em
