Martin shaw

Don't you think he is gorgeous ?

reply

I am an American who has recently discovered "The Professionals" and I could never decide if Shaw was handsome or odd looking. I am now looking to get dvd's of Deed so I can see how well he's aged.

reply

Just got my first copy of Deed and I am amazed at the quality of the scripts and the acting. I am thankful I bought that multi region DVD player. Martin Shaw is first rate. Every now and then I will see doyle in him; a grimace or reaction. just ordered another series. What other British shows should I be looking for? I would love some reccommendations.

reply

If you want to see the finest dramas Britain has ever produced, get Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, Smiley's People and A Perfect Spy (all spy dramas), Edge of Darkness (nuclear conspiracy thriller), Pride and Prejudice (period drama and romance, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle), Our Friends in the North (corruption in local government), Middlemarch (period drama), and Life on Mars (time-shift cop drama/comedy). You won't be sorry about seeing any of these. You might also enjoy Johathan Creek - a light comedy/drama about a magician who solves crimes. :) Trish

Martin Shaw is also on George Gently, and you might also like New Tricks. I just finished that series. Inspector Morse and also Inspector Lewis are very good.

reply

Couldn't agree with you more, crazytracey, and the man gets even better looking the older he gets!!!Having said that, I reckon he hams it up a bit in this series, but then - who the hell cares????

"Go on, go in a huddle and plot; isn't that what spooks do?"

reply

True, he is better looking than ever. But honestly: if you compare Judge Deed to stuff like The Chief you get more the impression it's Doyle acting than Martin Shaw. I think his performance is really over the top.

reply

Over the top is right! This scarlet caped crusader holds (high) court in an incredibly biased fashion. Prosecution and defence counsel are his ex-wife,off and on girl-friend and his brat of a daughter. No one likes Deed and little wonder,he is forever at task with the government, industry and his fellow judges. His outrageous conduct is a marvelous cloak for the real John Deed,a dark sexual predator. One day,Deed's out of court antics will catch up with him and chances are he will say,"help me Jo,help me!",and she will, again. ;-)

reply

And who wouldn't, given the opportunity!

reply

I'm totally loving "The Deed!" most completly! sorry I can't actually spell!!

Would you stay knowing life would always be a little worse, or would you cut and run?

reply

I agree with you, about loving the series Judge John Deed. I hope the BBC will release 2006 and 2007 on DVD.

reply

Still waiting and hoping!

Yes the sexual predator part is what turns me off of him, his holier than thou attitude is probably the norm for a high court judge, I just watched an episode where Jo breaks up with him and agrees to marry, heartbroken he spends 30 seconds before trying to get into his ex wifes pants, when she turns him down (how dare she!) He readily finds another, whom is apparent is a spy for his adversary Ian.... Well, this is as far as I have gotten in the series, so I will see who he gets his leg over next...
An American fan Came to this after enjoying him in Gently

reply

I agree. This part of the character kind of turns me off. But I guess the message is that as brilliant as he is in the court room, he's not perfect. Nobody is.

reply

I think hes fantastic as a natural actor. I love the JJ Deed episodes, typical great British drama.

He recently is lead actor in a new series called "Apparitions" I think only 6 episodes made or at least the only Ive seen. Not sure if show is axed or pending. You can d/l on EZTV

reply

I agree, so where are the final episodes of JJD I wonder? It doesn't seem good marketing to release 90% of a popular series and forget the final eps.

reply

The topic is the actor, not his roles. Too much ADHD in the world, on both sides of the Atlantic. Probably explains the present state of affairs.

reply

Don't know if gorgeous is the word for him. That said, I'd pay money to watch him eat strawberries.

So would I..........only if he was eating them slowly and seductively lol

reply

Personally, I find his acting compelling. My wife, on the other hand, seems to have a "thing" for him. I am very understanding about this as she is understanding about my "thing" for Gemma Redgrave.

What started us on Martin Shaw was Inspector George Gently. Another excellent series.

reply

Shaw is a commanding actor but some of the scripts in this show read more like comic capers.

reply

I can't argue with that. Enjoyable show though.
