Why were the locals so territorial over such a lame beach?

It's a exactly what you said, it's territorial behavior. But it's because in many cases there is something sacred about the land itself and Hawaiians do not like non-natives treading there. Given their options, why would they even go there to surf? And didn’t Ann Marie’s local status allow her to bring guests? What if Drew wanted to take one of his tourist hookups there?
