I've probably seen it 3-4 times, and could easily watch it again now.
Portrays the surf culture of Hawaii (I forget which island now) in a very believable and realistic way. Shots of the surf and surfing are beautiful.
An excellent, worth watching "small" film.
Set and filmed on Oahu, although the article that inspired it was about the surf girls on Maui.

In the film’s credits, the article is called “Surfer Girls of Maui” which is what author Susan Orlean retitled it when she included it in her collection called The Bullfighter Checks Her Makeup.
