Mama handing Roxie's diary to Velma

I found it weird how Mama decides to give Roxie's diary to Velma in order to weaken Roxie's case. Before that, Roxie and Mama were good, then suddenly she decides to stand against Roxie with Velma. What gives?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just watched and I forgot the Billy was the one who slipped the diary ordeal into the trial. So he worked with Mama to get it into Velma's hand to hit two birds with one stone? did I miss something?

I'm guessing so and I'm guessing Billy paid Mama a good sum as well since she doesn't do anything for free

Well, in this movie, Mama is shown to be a totally corrupt and greedy woman who does everything for money. So, it wasn't so surprising to see her shift her loyalty from Roxie to Velma. It was implied that she was doing a lot for Velma before Roxie is sent to prison any ways.
