shareI know this a bit insensitive but you do realize this a film right? That's like asking why Julia Roberts didn't go back to school instead of prostituting herself in 'Pretty Woman'. It's part of the story, it moves the plot along. If Velma just cut ties with her sister half the film would be missing. This is not plot that's asking for deep analysis.
Besides people kill each other in life all time, for much more trivial reasons.

Velma didn't have to shoot Charlie and Veronica, but it was integral for the plot. She could have done many things, but in the "roaring 20's", it's not like it was uncommon to murder a cheating spouse.
