Believe?

Does anyone else out there doubt this is truly the last we'll see of 2-D animation from Disney? Once they get rid of Satan..er...I mean, Eisner...and some other studio makes a hit 2-D animated movie, Disney will jump right back on the band wagon like they're doing with CG. Then, providing they come up with a hit, they'll act as if they didn't mean it (dismissing 2-D) all along.

One needs to consider the tastes of the public. How this year's 2-D animated films do against the 3-D ones will be a factor. Academy Award honors will probably be a factor. The chances are that with SHREK 2, THE INCREDIBLES, and A SHARK'S TALE, all the nominees for best animated film will be 3-D efforts. In fact, I think HOME ON THE RANGE is the highest regarded 2-D film on the Oscar watcher lists. So 2-D may go the way of cliffhanger serials, B features like the old Tarzan, Charlie Chan, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, newsreels, and the movie palaces.
