This thing is rated a 7.1 ???

IMDB has this movie rated at 7.1. That's too high for this mediocre movie.

Consider that 37 people gave it a 10 out of 10. Another common score: 11 people gave it 1 out of 10.

I wonder if those who work in the industry are posting these ratings? I mean, did 37 of the cast & crew post a 10 out of 10, while 11 employees of competing studios posted 1 out of 10?

I've seen this on other movies, where 10 and 1 are more common than realistic ratings.

I wonder if IMDB should set up a weighting system where 10 and 1 are somewhat devalued because of people with financial or other interests in success or failure of the movie?

That could be the case but I really think the ones who gave it a 10 are ones who really, really liked it... probably people who haven't voted much or don't really seriously consider their ratings. Another reason for the 10's could be people rating it that much to boost the rating is one way to show people love this movie and to tell Disney not to quit. As for the ones it could be people who really hate the movie, haven't seen it but love their 3D, I don't know but there are probably a few reasons. It could be some Hollywood types in there.

I haven't seen it yet but I know it wouldn't get lower then a 6... there is a really good chance anyways since I have rarely been disappointed by an animated feature... although direct to video fare is a different story.

A 6 is a realistic rating for this movie. I gave it a 5.

I see it fell to a 6.7 today, as it picked up several more mid-level scores.

Heh, what a concept. Naaahhh, everytime a movie some arbitrary person doesn't like gets a good rating, it's ALWAYS studio plants!!!

Notice the user rating has been consistently falling. Started in the 8s, was 7.1 when I started this thread, and now 6.5. It got a lot of 10s the first day, but few since then.

I think the "studio plant" theory makes a lot of sense.

The eventual score will probably be near 6, which seems about right.

its gotten down to 6.5 now

I just changed my signature.

Obviously studios don't "plant" people to vote 10. Think about it - does IMDB really affect how many people are going to see a movie? Yeah, maybe it will influence a couple hundred people, but most people have already made up their mind to see it. Just think about it, it doesn't make any sense. Some people just like the movie.

It's really the 1's that should be devalued because they generally come from people who just got out of the theater and are angry because they feel like their money was wasted. If they thought about it for a couple days, they would probably boost their rating.

I've refused to see or rent a movie because of a bad rating here and I doubt I'm unique enough to be just one of a few hundred. If the studios don't have their people in here to try and jack the numbers than they are just too dumb to be in business.

reply

Agreed!!!

I am also influenced by the ratings on IMDB. They are there to be used, and I use them to to decide which movies are more likely to be enjoyable.

But I look at the distribution, not just the average, and I ignore the often exaggerated scores of 1 and 10. The average score is usually meaningless the first few days because that's when all those 10s and 1s get posted.

I see this one has fallen further, to a 6.3 as of April 14.

It deserves one, IMO. The only really bad thing I could say about the film was that I was sad to see it end. I wanted more.

It's a very good movie. Very fun.

Now it's a 5.7... and it's July 8th 2004. This movie sounds like it's a good kids movie though. I don't think it looks any good but what the he|| I will see it anyways. :)

That happens a lot with amazon.com reviewers- they either give a movie five stars or 1!
