Good Old Fashioned Rip-Roaring Fun!

Just saw this and AM I GLAD!

Ok, I love Up, adore Pixar generally and really need my fill of the latest, shiniest animation I can get at least three times a year.

Even though so much of what comes out today is crap, much of it is good too. Seen Coraline?

Then, out of the blue, I stumble onto three cows in traditional two dee out on a mission to save their farm.

With Dame Judy Dench.

Absolutely fantastic. It's a little corny but honest-to-god goodness, and the voices are right up there in your face. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to LISTEN to the voice acting in animation, the writing, the timing...you can SEE the actors in front of the microphones just loving every minute of it!

And because it's two dee, the attention to Sound Design is really traditional and very well done, depth, space, landscape and all this just in stereo.

I was on the couch with a tub of ice-cream, home-entertainment switched to ALL ON EVERYTHING, and my phones switched OFF, a HUGE grin on my face and my toes doing tiddly dance the whole way through.

Lovely.
