Was It Ever A Musical??

Just wondering if early on in the process this movie was every planned as a full on musical. The Yodelling Song seems slightly out of place compared to the other songs. And there is that deleted scene on the DVD where some grasshoppers (?) act as singing narrators for the start. AS enjoyable as the movie was, I think I would have enjoyed the songs more if they were true musical moments.

I don't think so. I clearly remember the yodeling song was the only part of the movie where a character got to really sing, but the others were like background music just like in Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, etc etc.
