Why and when was Sarah Jessica Parker ditched?

I remember she was announced as the voice of Pearl and many sites and reviews still has her listed instead of Carole Cook. Did her voice play too young for the character?

Actually, from what I understand, Sarah Jessica Parker was supposed to be another character, the daughter of Pearl...I overheard that they couldn't figure out what to do with her, so her character was nixed.

I remember hearing about this too, but I don't recall anything about voicing Pearl's daughter in the movie. I guess her voice would of been young to be put in an elderly character's body to match it up right.

Sarah Jessica Parker was supposed to be the horse

Sarah Jessica Parker was removed from the film because Disney executives felt it could be confusing. Focus groups reacted negatively to her inclusion, with many patrons asking why a horse had been chosen to provide a voice in a film all about cows.
