and Zimsky was declared a hero for helping save the world, does that mean that they totally covered up the fact that he built Destiny and in fact cause the core to stop spinning in the first place???

I don;t see why dying to repair your screw-up that could destroy the world shouldn't be seen as heroic. Does it really matter to the world, after the fact, that the dead scientist is the one responsible for Destini?
And who's really to blame- the designer or the government who built the damned thing?

Zimsky admitted he not only built the machine but he said he was the one who beamed the energy waves to the core the first time so yeah I'd say he is totally responsible for the deaths of a few million people. And also the General chewed Zimsky out over Destiny before the press conference for doing it.
