Not about the 'science!' Question about ending SPOILER ALERT

The "science" is way too absurd so I'm not even going to try to figure out where they came up with their ideas.

BUT...I admit to not paying extreme attention to this movie, so I'd like a spoiler, please. At the end, the two survivors wind up in the ocean, sure no one will find them because their comms are out, etc. Then, more weird science, whales start circling on the surface, and there is great whooping and hollering. Divers go down, planes and ships circle. The last scene is the two of them talking about how they hope word will somehow get out about the sacrifices the others made to save the lives of the rest of the world. We know it will, because their boyish friend is all over the internet telling the story. Then it ends. So, are they not rescued? It seems very ambiguous to me.

It's implied that when the rescue helos are flying over and they see the whales and they get some kind of a sonar ping (from the air?) or something one of the pilots says "There's something down there, there's definitely something down there", that this is them definitively being rescued.

They just don't explicitly show the thing being dragged up from the ocean. Which is a shame because then we cold watch that instead of stupid conversations about showers and pizza.

Why do I keep watching this movie? Is it just to laugh at Stanley Tucci, Eckhart and Swank?

At least it has Alfre Woodard and Bruce Greenwood, I guess. Oh and Paladin.

I confess I was way too tired when I saw this movie. You are right, they did everything but hold up a sign stating, "They're getting rescued!" Thanks for the response!

You're welcome. Besides, no one could have blamed you if you were still laughing so hard you couldn't see the screen after the man-boy goes running across the flat-top screaming "IT'S THE WHAAALES", haha.

Actually they do show Virgil being hoisted up. Between the scenes you mentioned...pilots says "There's something down there, there's definitely something down there", and the talk about showers and pizza they show divers hovering about 10 feet below the surface with a cable between them. The cable is being drawn up, then we see Virgil come into view and move toward the surface. Then the interior with our survivors and so begins the pizza and shower conversation.

you see them being pulled up, they are chatting about geting the info out, whilst they are being hoisted.
