low rating, for such an obvious gem!

This poor movie...

'B' Grade? Perhaps. But if so, it's the BEST 'B' grade movie I've ever seen! I can't believe the ratings it's receiving, however. It's certainly upwards of a 6.5 easy.

I'm surprised I don't see Aaron Eckhart more often since this role(probably my own misfortune). I thought he did an astounding job! As well as 90% of the other cast. I see he has done several other films though. I'll definitely be checking them out.

The idea that it didn't even break even on the budget is phenomenal. People are far to difficult to please...

I agree, it's a leave your brain at the door, but I loved it. Happy to get whatever disaster film I can these days. Was able to pickup on Blu-Ray at Amazon.uk as well and it's region free. No extras, but nice to have on Blu!

LOVE apocalyptic movies! As well as Post Apocalyptic movies ;) I too will pretty much take what I can get LOL!

I love it too. Tons of fun. Stanley Tucci is hilarious. Love DJ Qualls too.

Good drama, characters, action. Great fun for all!

Watching this right now. This movie is great for what it is: a Michael Crichton-style thriller where the planet is threatened by some (often to varying degrees) plausible existential threat and the day is saved by the smartest guys and gals in the room. This gem really didn't deserve all the flak it took. I ascribe the film's commercial and critical failure to it coming out at the wrong time after too many disaster movies in too short a time span. That it is actually a superior movie was irrelevant; people stayed away and a myth was born that the movie sucked - even though it is unexpectedly pretty good - because people assume that all disaster movies must suck. And in pretty much every other instance, they would be correct. This movie is one of maybe a tiny handful of exceptions. Which literally makes it exceptional.

I'm gonna agree. I liked it. I'd like to take a few points away from some movies with a much higher rating, and give them to this one. the hunger games comes to mind.

I thought The Core was enjoyable - if it had been set like maybe 50 years in the future, I think that could've helped with the suspension of disbelief.

I was attracted to the promise this film seemed to offer from its early scenes, but soon realized, save for some of the special effects, that the production was concocted on a very simplistic, unrealistic, predictable and undramatic level. The plot was far too farfetched and disrespectful of the realities of science, not to mention unmindful of the problems that one would have expected to have been encountered in an undertaking of the proportion and extent presented in the film. There were far too many serendipitous occurrences, such as the scientist working alone on just the appropriately needed device in the desert, or the time factors and deadlines that were totally out of proportion to reality.

I thought the acting was less than effective, very bland and predictable, and the characters wooden, superficial, and without any depth - hollow caricatures with whom I found it impossible to develop any sense of empathy or an appreciation of any of the contrived and unrealistic situations they were put into.

Most of the people who seem to regard this film favorably, it seems, seem more attracted to the sex appeal of the actors than to the film itself! That is understandable, since this ultimately turns out to be a "dud" of a sci-fi movie.
Very disappointing on virtually all levels.

I enjoy this movie and am watching it right now but I don't mind the low rating it has. It's a fun movie to watch much like most disaster films but it still doesn't deserve to have a high rating.
