this is a dumb question, i havent seen this movie, the John Carpenter that Dafoe plays, is that the horror filmmaker John Carpenter?

No, he plays a comletely different Carpenter.

Thank goodness! I love much of Carpenter's work and I was freaked out if it were him.

yep that is a dumb question..LOL..sorry, I wondered that myself but it's just an unfortunate fate of having the same names.

Besides I believe the Carpenter in the film is now dead while the director Carpenter is alive and well and making films about the dead.
