It felt a little 'flat'...

... The 'focus' is not so interesting if all your subjects feel 2-dimensional. Kinnear is bland, but even Dafoe doesn't 'bring it', this time around, because the script gives the actors very little to work with. I know it's a decade earlier, but compare this to Boogie Nights, for one, and it's really got a long way to go. Still, the fascination of watching two people slowly destroy themselves is strong, and it's the 'hook' that just about saves this, in the end. 6/10.

I think you heard me jus' fine, 'Punchy'...

I agree Kinnear was very bland in this role

... Do you agree that casting William H. Macy instead, would have been more fitting?

I think that was intentional. The whole point seemed to be that Crane really was a man with out a lot of depth. He wasn't a compelling man, but a man with a compulsion.

How deep do your feelings really run when you are willing to trade in your family and your carreer for a series of meaningless physical encounters? He didn't come off as a tortured soul with a terrible addiction so much as a kid that likes his candy a lot more than his dinner.

If you was a mo-ron, I suppose you cd'almost andmire it. (Sheriff, kbv1)
